Facebook has apparently had their service used to facilitate what can only be called slavery.
A SICK family sold their 17-year-old daughter “virgin bride” on Facebook to the highest bidder for 500 cows, three cars and £7,500 in a “barbaric slave market”.
The teen was married to businessman Kok Alat on November 9 after a bidding war ensued in South Sudan on the social media platform between five men, including a high-ranking government official.
One of the bidders was David Mayom Riak, the deputy governor of Eastern Lakes State, and he had offered 250 cows as dowry.
He told South Sudanese broadcaster Radio Tamazuj: “I know the family very well because we were neighbours.
“I promised the family to marry her since she was still young.”
Alat was declared the winner on August 3 after the teen’s father accepted 500 cows, three V8 cars and £7,500, a spokesperson from charity Plan International said

HORTONVILLE – A local business that produces glassware embedded with bullets recently decided to give every employee a handgun as a Christmas present.
Ben Wolfgram, who co-owns Hortonville-based BenShot, said the decision to give employees handguns as a gift was made as part of an effort to promote personal safety and team building.
The business has 16 full-time employees, including several military veterans. But the business also had employees who had never fired a gun before, Wolfgram said.

Study: Oceans warming faster than anticipated giving humanity even less time to stave off worst impacts of climate change
The world’s oceans may be heating up faster than previously thought — meaning the planet could have even less time to avoid catastrophic global warming than predicted just weeks ago by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
According to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature, ocean temperatures have been warming 60 percent more than outlined by the IPCC.
The new study, authored by scientists at Princeton University, UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a number of other research centers around the world, is not the first to suggest oceans could be warmer than previously thought.
This was on top of the UN crying we are doooomed oddly enough just this summer. Turns out it’s wrong and a “Climate Denier” found it.
Researchers with UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Princeton University recently walked back scientific findings published last month that showed oceans have been heating up dramatically faster than previously thought as a result of climate change.
However, the conclusion came under scrutiny after mathematician Nic Lewis, a critic of the scientific consensus around human-induced warming, posted a critique of the paper on the blog of Judith Curry, another well-known critic.
“The findings of the … paper were peer reviewed and published in the world’s premier scientific journal and were given wide coverage in the English-speaking media,” Lewis wrote. “Despite this, a quick review of the first page of the paper was sufficient to raise doubts as to the accuracy of its results.”
What’s the important take away here ? Peer review is more about not offending anyone doing the review than scientific accuracy ? You can get horribly bad results accepted and cited if they reinforce the politics of the moment ? It’s really a bad idea to get advice from academics ?
