If Trump Isn't This Clever, Then He's the Luckiest President in History

Time after time, we’ve heard from a good many people that Trump is playing 3-D chess against his political opponents. And, time after time, we’ve heard his critics (myself included) say that there’s no way he’s that clever.

But, you have to admit that, at the very least, he’s received the blessings of many a coincidence.

Nancy Pelosi is embroiled in a bitter civil war with The Squad, and she is desperate to get them to tone it down and get out of the spotlight. Donald Trump tweets out messages about The Squad that are condemned as “racist,” which forces Pelosi to defend them. They hold a press conference, crying foul and immediately calling for impeachment.

At that point, Pelosi had to be pulling her hair out.

You may not remember this, but the 2020 contenders for the Democratic nomination have a debate next week, and no one is paying attention. Those candidates are talking about The Squad. The media is talking about The Squad. The Republicans are talking about The Squad. The Democrats are talking about The Squad.

Trump? Well, he walks away from “Send her back” chants that started at his own rally. He separated himself from them. He’s free to say what he wants again.

Meanwhile, the Democrats and their allies are focused on The Squad.

Look, if that’s not a planned political strategy, then Trump has to be the luckiest guy on the planet. At the very least, SOMEONE with some savvy is advising him and he’s listening. It’s just way too big a coincidence for me to really believe that this is a matter of luck.

You can’t really say it’s too clever by half, because it’s working and there is very little detriment to it working. All of the media coverage is off the 2020 election and focused squarely on four U.S. Congresswomen who aren’t even in the running. It’s not like they can run, either. They will be facing primary challenges (if the Democratic operatives who spoke with Jake Tapper are to be believed) for their own seats.

So, it’s not like they’re actually relevant to 2020 in the grand scheme of things… unless someone makes them relevant, which appears to be what’s happening here.

Maybe I’m wrong here. Maybe this is a big coincidence. Again, if that’s the case, Trump is the luckiest man I know and the luckiest president in American history.

Like we mentioned earlier this week, there is polling that shows that the more The Squad gets recognized nationally, the less popular they become. Swing voters hold Omar in contempt, and Ocasio-Cortez isn’t fairing much better. They are too far left for moderate Democrats and swing voters.

That’s bad news for the Democrats, and if the previously mentioned conversations with Tapper ring true, then the party knows it. But, the Democrats have allowed for attention-seeking upstarts to set the narrative, and now they are dealing with the results.

Pelosi didn’t have to allow racism to become the Democrats’ favorite pushback against Trump. The 2020 candidates didn’t have to jump on the Green New Deal bandwagon. The Democratic Party didn’t have to latch on to collusion and obstruction as the silver bullet to get rid of Trump. But, these are all things they chose to do, and only now is it dawning on them that they’ve allowed it to go too far.

Meanwhile, 2020 has never looked so promising for Trump.
