The Good News Is There's Only Three And A Half Years Left

If you look closely at the headline above, you’ll notice that the two O’s actually have sarcasm slowly oozing out, and some of it is spilling into the word “Three.” The reason is because I can’t actually believe we’ve gone through 3,256 scandals in just six months. But, here we are!

In the short time he’s been in office, Trump has changed 75% of his senior advisers/staff, made enough faux pas to make Joe Biden say “Dude, slow down,” and created enough new and exciting material for at least one season of House Of Cards. There is also enough drama to be its own soap opera OR two Japanese anime.

Somehow, we’ve managed to not burn the nation down around us, but it isn’t for lack of trying. White supremacy is on the march again, with one of its members taking human life just over a week ago, and Antifa has decided that wanton property damage in many instances is the way to go to show that Donald Trump is unfit to be President.

The Democratic Party is in shambles, and the man who destroyed it, Barack Obama, has come back out of the shadows to help lead his party in 2018. That should be good news for the Republicans but, alas, they’re somehow still in the midst of a (trigger warning!) civil war despite controlling the House, the Senate, and the White House.

The President manages to wake up each morning and find a Republican to attack. He does so as much, if not more, than he does to Democrats. When he’s not attacking one of his own Party, he is attacking the media and using Twitter to reach the masses. He has a press secretary, but it seems like half her job is explaining or spinning his tweets to the press. He has a communications director, but it’s hard to imagine why if he’s got his Twitter account and no one thinks to take a hammer to his phone.

The Cabinet? With the exception of Mattis, you don’t really hear much out of them. Tillerson seems at times to have no idea what is going on, and Nikki Haley and James Mattis seem to be the only ones who get things done. The others are busy quietly toiling away, but almost all of their efforts are overshadowed by Trump’s Latest Tweet.

And it’s only been a half a year.

The country is confused. We find a new thing to be outraged over every day, and it isn’t just liberal snowflakes anymore. There is always something that Trump does that either infuriates us or has us rush to his defense. There is no media calling it straight down the middle anymore. The mainstream media has declared war on Trump, and the right-leaning media seems to be more than happy to provide cover no matter how indefensible some things are.

Give Obama credit where it’s due: He spread his bull@#$% out over the course of eight years. That way, we could rake some of it out and use it as manure to properly cultivate a talking point. With Trump, we’re getting buried in it, and everyone else is piling their own on. We are struggling to keep our heads above the surface long enough to catch a breath before we’re buried even further.

And, even if we somehow make it to the top of the pile that was poured on us, we’ve managed to get covered in the crap all sides are flinging at each other and stink as much as the rest of them do.

The question to all of this is simple: Why?

Why are we constantly jumping from one thing to the next, never catching a breath, never stopping to think? Why is everything even more outrageous than the last?

It’s because, in 2016, we decided we wanted to fight. A huge chunk of the electorate voted for a guy because he fights! and not really for any policy reasons. So, his cult of personality is being challenged by the Clinton cult of personality (which is super weird to say because I am not sure she actually has a personality to form a cult around, but it somehow happened). The media has decided to fight Trump, and his followers and the right-leaning media are fighting them.

Pro-Trump Republican and conservatives fight Anti-Trump Republicans and conservatives in social media and in blog posts, but at the same time they’re all being attacked by Democrats and liberals for thinking differently than they do.

Oh, and Antifa is fighting inanimate objects with fire.

2016: The Year Of The Fighter has become 2017: The Year We Fought And Fought And Fought And Fought, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. So, we only have three and a half years left, y’all… Unless Donald Trump wins re-election in 2020 and it becomes seven and a half years.

Oh dear God.
