Orrin Hatch Sends Emotional Statement On White Nationalists In Charlottesville

Senator Orrin Hatch is one of several Republicans who called yesterday’s violent protest what it was: a rally for neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other vile people who set out to purge America of people who are different than they are.

Hatch has a personal distaste for Nazis in particular, as the subject hits home for him. He let his feelings for the protesters in Charlottesville be known in a tweet yesterday that was as emotional as it was powerful.

There are plenty of Republicans who called this evil out by its name, but there is one Republican who has yet to address it by what it is: Donald Trump. And, it’s no doubt disappointing to folks like Hatch, who lost family fighting the Nazis, to see the de facto leader of his party refuse to call them what they are.

We make a major deal over whether or not we call Islamist terrorists for what they are, and we should do the same for white supremacists and neo-Nazis.
