Senate Democrats have gotten at least 41 votes in the move to limit debate on Neal Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination, paving the way for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to use the “nuclear option” to limit debate by allowing a simple majority vote for confirmation.
The vote is still ongoing as of this post, but the Republicans will be unable to hit the 60 vote threshold to limit debate to 30 more hours, according to Senate rules. It is expected that the GOP will use the nuclear option to get Gorsuch confirmed by the end of the week.
Democrats on the floor spoke out against using the nuclear option, though they were silent on Harry Reid’s use of it in 2013.
