As we approach the end of Barack Obama’s term in office (we can all breathe a little easier now), let us look back on his accomplishments:
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)- Destroying the Democratic Party
- Winning the Nobel Prize for Peace
Taking a closer look at item no. 3, let’s see how peaceful the commander-in-chief was during 2016:
Looking back at President Obama’s legacy, the Council on Foreign Relation’s Micah Zenko added up the defense department’s data on airstrikes and made a startling revelation: in 2016 alone, the Obama administration dropped at least 26,171 bombs. This means that every day last year, the US military blasted combatants or civilians overseas with 72 bombs; that’s three bombs every hour, 24 hours a day.
While most of these air attacks were in Syria and Iraq, US bombs also rained down on people in Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. That’s seven majority-Muslim countries.
This information, brought to you by The Guardian, (which nauseatingly fawns over how much of a “hawk” Obama has been) does point out a couple of interesting facts. For example, did you know Obama authorized ten times as many drones strikes as George W. Bush? Or that he regarded all fighting-age males in the region as combatants, making them fair game?
How about the fact that what the Guardian’s piece calls the “twisted legal architecture” of the Obama Administration will be usable by Donald Trump starting January 21st?
Boy, those are accomplishments worthy of a Peace Prize.
