Who would have thought that an Iran who was given everything they wanted by the U.S. government would demand more? Who could have guessed that a country that hates us would like nothing more than to continue poking and prodding us with policies and practices that are meant to provoke a reaction?
The outgoing Iranian Parliament is demanding unspecified compensation from the United States for its involvement in “spiritual and material damage” for the past 63 years, Iranian state news reported Tuesday.
During its Tuesday morning session, the Parliament cited examples such as the U.S involvement in the coup of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953, America’s support of Iraq in its war with Iran from 1980 to 1988, and the destruction of oil platforms in the late ’80s.
This comes as a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last month, which ruled that Iran should hand over nearly $2 billion in frozen assets to Americans affected by attacks that Iran was accused of organizing.
Yes, the law is a response to the Supreme Court’s decision. However, Iran has been essentially told by the Obama Administration that we’re not really going to enforce anything. The things we were told about the Iran Deal, which have since been revealed as a lie, aren’t really in place. There is really no enforcement mechanism to keep Iran in check.
And we all saw it coming. More aggressive actions by Iran, not less. We anticipated that they would get bolder in what they do, and here they are doing it. It’s not that it’s something they wouldn’t have done anyway. But these types of stories are becoming more frequent. A lack of leadership from the U.S., and a lack of any sort of deterrence mechanism, have led to this moment, where Iran is going to outright demand compensation from the U.S. for its policies.
