Yesterday, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal signed two pieces of legislation that would tighten abortion regulations. One of the bills, critics say, would shutter a few of the five abortion providers in the state. The reason? The bill says abortion providers should have admitting privileges to a nearby hospital.
Mary Landrieu, a Democratic Senator from the apparently blue state of Louisiana, had this to say:
In an interview, Landrieu ripped Jindal’s stewardship of the abortion measures as fuel for his burning desire to be president in 2016, calling his record “very troubling” and not in line with “serving the people of Louisiana.”
“Nothing on this subject is easy to explain. I have kind of a different record than most. I’ve voted against late-term abortion, I voted for access in the … pre-viability [period],” she said. “Although I personally believe that life begins at conception, I believe the last place the government needs to be is in the church, in the doctor’s office or in the bedroom. And so even people who advocate for less government intrusion, like Gov. Jindal, get themselves in the most personal decisions a family could ever make.”
This text gives us everything we could want and so much more.
“Although I personally believe that life begins at conception…”
If you have to add “personally” to that sentence, you’re about to say something ill-advised.
“…I believe the last place the government needs to be is in the church…”
Will you say something about this, then?
“…in the doctor’s office…”
Hello, Affordable Care Act Mary Landrieu Was The Deciding Vote On.
“…or in the bedroom…”
Please take that concern to the NSA, because I left my phone on the charger in my bedroom.
Make no mistake, Mary Landrieu is trying to rally support in a state that she is losing grasp on. Magellan released a poll today showing Bill Cassidy at +6 in a runoff, and the RealClearPolitics average has Cassidy up +3 in that runoff scenario. The POLITICO story indicates polling shows raising the minimum wage might be a beneficial message for Landrieu, but so far, she hasn’t made any moves on it.
Also, her ad campaign sucks.
