At 12:30 PM Pacific, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will speak at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. RedState will be covering the speech live from the library, but you can also watch it live right here.
DeSantis’ speech is his first of two appearances he’ll make in the Golden State on Sunday; the second is a $500/plate fundraiser for the Republican Party of Orange County. Tickets for the Reagan Library speech were free and sold out within hours of the announcement. A very small number of tickets were available for those who wanted to receive a signed copy of DeSantis’ new book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival, at the library.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who’s seemingly obsessed with DeSantis, left the state Thursday for places unknown for “personal time” with his family and is slated to return sometime Sunday. While Newsom is AWOL, a “life-and-death” situation is unfolding in at least one mountain area affected by snowstorms over the last two weeks. In the San Bernardino County mountain communities of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, supplies are dwindling and parents of newborns have run out of formula. Community members have organized and are collecting supplies and delivering them to neighbors using snowmobiles, and private helicopter pilots have attempted to fly supplies up for days but for the most part have been turned away, with the Sheriff using the excuse that since the area is a federal disaster area they cannot allow private aviators to land or they risk losing funding. Even more maddening, roads have been clear for a couple of days going up the mountain but officials are only allowing people down the mountain and not allowing residents or those bringing relief supplies up.
The contrast between the two governors is startling, and it will be interesting to see if DeSantis mentions Newsom in his remarks.
