The City of Waukesha has confirmed via its Twitter account that five people were killed and over 40 injured at the community Christmas parade Sunday evening when a man rammed his Ford Escape through barricades and onto the parade route. Officials noted, though, that the numbers of dead/injured may change and that the situation is fluid.

Reports immediately following the incident claimed that law enforcement officers were looking for three suspects, but the tweet from the official city account said that “the” person of interest is in custody. As Nick Arama covered earlier, that man is believed to be Darrell Brooks, a black man in his late 30s who bonded out from his latest criminal charges on Friday, November 19.

The next press conference will be held at 1 PM local time on Monday.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as they are available.
