It seems that every day we sink deeper into Bizarro world, and today is no exception.
On the House floor (show) today, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Pelosi’s hiney) nearly stroked out while attempting to deliver a patriotic, rousing, call to action on an amendment that would extend federal election security grants to states into 2019 (when there’s still unspent money in the current budget). Listening to Hoyer, one would think the Russians (who were irrelevant in 2012) were motoring up the Potomac and Hudson Rivers, with Putin ready to stand at the top of the Capitol steps and proclaim this land his own – and that following a courageous leader such as himself would lead to victory!
House Democrats erupted into chants of "USA" as Rep. Steny Hoyer called on lawmakers to "rise above pandering to party and Putin." https://t.co/ASl5wHJRxx pic.twitter.com/TJFpVyN9Ma

Allegedly unironically, Hoyer exhorted his colleagues:
“The flashing red light calls us to action. Surely, we can rise above pandering to party and Putin to act on behalf of our freedom and our security.”
For those of you following at home, this is the same Steny Hoyer who voted “present” just yesterday when it came to supporting the people who enforce our immigration and border security laws. Hoyer continued:
“We have sworn an oath to defend our constitution and our liberties against all enemies, foreign and domestic. You have the opportunity to do that today. Do so. Vote yes on this amendment, for your country!”
Dems in the chamber erupted (spontaneously? Nawwww) in a chant of “USA! USA! USA!” Republicans, probably stunned at this theater act, watched.
I’m not normally one to encourage NOT joining in on a patriotic chant. I believe Russia interfered in our elections in 2016 (to what extent, I don’t know), and has either interfered or attempted to interfere with them for years before 2016. I fully believe they’re still attempting to interfere with our country’s government on many levels. Vladimir Putin is the former head of the KGB, for God’s sake, and a true believer in Communism and Mother Russia. He can never, ever be trusted, even for one second.
All of that said, this chant and Hoyer’s supposed passion is bull****. Everything the Democrats say about this issue is bull****.
If they’re serious about defending our freedom and ensuring we have secure, valid elections, start with requiring voter ID. Start with ensuring that states are regularly cleansing voter rolls. Those are things you normally vote against, Mr. Hoyer. (Just in case you forgot.)
If they’re serious about defending our security, start at the border.
Then, they can stop their silly fatwas against any person who says things they don’t agree with. Stop calling gun owners murderers. Stop giving criminals more rights than everyday citizens. Stop criminalizing the exercise of fundamental rights.
If they do those things – even just a few of them – I might take their patriotism seriously. Until then, I just can’t.
