MSD Student Who Ran Toward Gunfire Has a Message for #BrowardCoward

When Marjory Stoneman Davis High School senior Brandon Huff received a text from his girlfriend saying, “There’s a shooter in the room. I love you,” he said he “dropped everything and ran toward that building.”

On his way there, he saw school resource officer Scot Peterson – outside, crouched behind a staircase, “pointing his gun at just a building.” He couldn’t believe it. He saw Coach Aaron Feis and Athletic Director Chris Hixon, unarmed and without the bulletproof vest the officer had, running into the building to save students. Feis and Hixon lost their lives in the process.

Huff described what he saw to a local television station:

The school resource officer was behind a stairwell wall, just standing there, and he had his gun drawn, and he was just pointing it at the building. And shots started going off inside. You could hear them going off over and over again.

He was pointing his gun at nothing. He was pointing his gun at just a building with kids in it. And he was just talking on the radio and he never did anything, for four minutes. He’s the only one with a gun, the only one with a bulletproof vest, and he did nothing.

Peterson was behind a stairwell of an adjacent building to where the shooting was happening. The building on the right is building 12, where the shooter was. Peterson was in front of the building on the left.

Huff has a message for Peterson:

You’re despicable. You didn’t do your job. You were trained for this. You were armed. You had a bulletproof vest. You were protected more than anybody else who died, who lost their lives, and you did nothing.

You did nothing at all, and you could have saved a lot of lives.

Yes, he is despicable.
