Congressional candidate Katie Hill wants to make sure that if you are going to argue politics at Christmas dinner you are aware of three common debate pitfalls – and created this handy video to illustrate them for you.

Yeah, she’s a Democrat, but hey, it’s Christmas, and the examples demonstrate that poor debate skills afflict both sides equally.

If you’ve ever “debated” (those are air quotes) politics on Facebook, you will recognize these arguments!

Hill defines the logical fallacies to avoid (ad hominem, red herring, false dichotomy) and gives examples of each one, but that’s probably way too much logic for most political debaters to stomach. As for me, I choose the “hide behind the camera and watch the insanity unfold” option.
