Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is at the White House today, discussing the prospects of peace with Israel with President Trump and his advisers.

Trump and Abbas gave a joint statement from the White House, where Trump was upbeat about the outcome of the talks – and gave an admonition about respecting human life and not targeting innocents.

“I want to support you in being the Palestinian leader who signs his name to the final…peace agreement.

All children of God must be taught to value and respect human life and condemn all of those who target the innocent.”

Abbas stated through a translator that the solution the Palestinian Authority is looking for is a two-state solution, based on 1967 borders, in which they peacefully coexist with Israel and have East Jerusalem as their capital. He painted a rainbows and unicorn picture, implying that if they just have this two-state solution, peace will reign throughout the middle east, with Arab and Israeli children running together through fields of wildflowers.

His words are through a translator, so they’re rough, but here is the essential quote:

“For us to bring about a comprehensive and just peace based on the two-state solution, such matter would give a great impetus to the Arab peace initiative and other international initiatives, as well as enable us to fight and deter terrorism and fight the criminal ISIS group. ISIS that is totally innocent [sic] and has nothing to do with our noble religion….

“Also if we create peace that is just and comprehensive, that will also lead the Arab and Islamic countries to have normal relations with Israel based as stipulated in the latest Arab summits.”

A two-state solution is not what Palestinian groups are seeking, though. Within minutes of the statement, Twitter exploded with tweets such as:

Hamas and other groups don’t recognize Israel’s right to exist, let alone have a two-state solution. Trump might have bought some of your propaganda, Mahmoud, but nobody else did.
