Directors Covering Trump Inauguration Threatened with Blacklisting

Hollywood’s hypocrisy on tolerance and respect for diverse viewpoints is so legendary that it seems useless to report on the continued examples of blacklisting that occur. But, as the liberals in the industry constantly point out, we must hold people in positions of power accountable. So, here goes.

Earlier this month an anonymous member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) emailed at least 66 members of the group, according to TMZ, threatening members who are covering the Inauguration events.

The email calls Trump “the monster we all fear.” It goes on, “It is not an overstatement that he is about to destroy this country if we don’t do something about it.”

Then comes the threat … “There is no need of naming names when the Inaugural credits will tell us enough about the people who truly care about this country and those who don’t share the same ideals.”

Several DGA members gave TMZ the name of a member they suspect sent the email, but TMZ was not able to independently confirm that that person sent the email. The suspected emailer is in a position to hire other members.

As we all know, it’s not just that one director who feels that way about Trump. Another “anonymous” person on the email thread replied:

“I often feel like saying, ‘If you work on the inaugural, you’re an asshole. If you work on the inaugural and you voted for Bozo the Nazi, you’re an asshole, AND an idiot!’ But I didn’t say that, did I?”

It’s certainly a departure from the admonition Meryl Streep gave in her Golden Globes speech less than two weeks ago:

Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.

The DGA released a statement Thursday afternoon:

“This is a DGA-covered project, staffed with DGA-represented employees. We have been in communication with our members, and let them know we support their right to work on this project, and intend to protect them fully. We have, and will continue to, investigate the source of this anonymous email.”

They’re investigating the source? This happened sometime around two weeks ago, and was sent to what one would think is a list of email addresses that are pretty hard to obtain if you’re not on the inside. And how does the second “anonymous” email get into the chain? The first anonymous author just happened to email to another address that no one knew and that person chimed in? Their inability to detect the sender is baffling.

Or, they have detected the sender and just don’t want to say anything.

Hollywood claims to feel so threatened by the Trump administration, but the real bullies are within their own ranks. Looking at you, Joss.
