Virginia is in the crosshairs today, and not just because of its highly-charged redistricting push engineered to eliminate Republicans from congressional seats. On Tuesday, a 19-year-old illegal alien (per Department of Homeland Security records) was sentenced for nine counts of repeatedly targeting and groping much younger high school girls at Fairfax High School. Despite his illegal status and the amount of evidence against him, he received what can only be considered a slap on the wrist.
Israel Flores Ortiz, 18, an illegal alien, was sentenced to 360 days on Tuesday after being convicted for groping several female classmates in Fairfax High School hallways earlier this year.
With time served and the calculations for a misdemeanor, he has 135 days left in prison.
That is basically 15 days for each girl he assaulted. There were 13 complaints filed against Flores-Ortiz, but ultimately, he was convicted on nine counts of assault. What the above article fails to note is that the judge is the one who reduced the sentencing to include time served.
Judge Melinda Vanlowe delivered the sentence, calling it a "very difficult case," adding the actions were "targeted" and representing a "pattern" of "deplorable" behavior.
Flores Ortiz was charged as an adult, but he was tried in juvenile court because most of the victims were minors. He was convicted in nine cases, acquitted in three and had one charge dismissed. He had originally been accused of assaulting 13 female classmates, according to the Fairfax Police Department.
The case had heightened concerns among parents about student safety after years of former President Joe Biden's open borders policy.
Flores Ortiz, originally from El Salvador, is in the country illegally, having reportedly arrived in 2024.
Nick Minock of local ABC 7 News spoke with one of the victims after Flores-Ortiz's April 10 conviction.

Israel Flores Ortiz was convicted on 9 charges of assault after more than a dozen girls reported he touched their private parts in school.
Interestingly, the charges were for assault. Not sexual assault. 🤔 We’ll see if Ortiz, who is an illegal immigrant, will serve more time in jail at his sentencing hearing later this month.
Why, pray tell, is an adult male allowed to even be enrolled in school with teenage girls and boys? Because Virginia law allows English as a second language speakers to stay in high school up to the age of 22.
My colleague Teri Christoph wrote about this travesty:
The Israel Ortiz case also has many people, including parents of the groping victims, wondering why this grown man, reportedly a junior, was at the school in the first place. It turns out the answer is found in Virginia Code § 22.1-5, which allows "English as a second language" students to remain in high school until their 22nd birthday provided they entered the United States after the age of 12. Meaning, an untold number of illegal men are roaming the halls of Virginia high schools and mixing in with teen girls.

Five of the nine victims were in court for the sentencing. One of the victims had a letter read into the record:
The court also heard a letter from one of the victims, who wrote that the case was not about immigration status, but about “a bad person who hurt her and her classmates.” She said the experience has left her living in fear and struggling mentally.
Defense attorneys argued the conduct should be viewed as immature behavior rather than sexual gratification, characterizing the incidents as pranks.
The defense also alleged that federal agencies “exploited” the case due to Flores Ortiz’s legal status in the United States.
Before sentencing, Flores Ortiz addressed the court in Spanish, apologizing to the victims and their families, saying, “I hurt them,” and also apologizing to his parents.
No word on whether Flores-Ortiz will be deported. This miscreant originally entered the U.S. at the southern border on December 4, 2024, under the Biden administration's watch.
You know the drill.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) has rolled back any cooperation of local law enforcement with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); so, there is a question on whether they will allow Flores-Ortiz to be released into ICE custody once his sentence has been served.
DHS has already signaled that they will be ready when that time comes.

Today, Flores-Ortiz will be sentenced. If Fairfax County’s sanctuary politicians choose to release this predator back into our communities, @ICEgov stands ready to take him into custody and deport this sexual deviant.
