President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce he has accepted an invitation from the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) to attend their 2026 dinner. Traditionally, the WHCA Dinner has been attended by the President of the United States, senior government officials, legacy media, and D.C. journalists. The president is usually roasted by the host entertainer and scheduled speakers. However, President Trump has never attended the dinner during his first term nor the first year of his second term. This will be his very first appearance at the dinner as a sitting president. Trump stated that because it is America's 250th birthday, and the press has somewhat moderated of late, he is now willing to attend and looks forward to being with them all.
The White House Correspondents Association has asked me, very nicely, to be the Honoree at this year’s Dinner, a long and storied tradition since it began in 1924, under then President Calvin Coolidge. In honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday, and the fact that these “Correspondents” now admit that I am truly one of the Greatest Presidents in the History of our Country, the G.O.A.T., according to many, it will be my Honor to accept their invitation, and work to make it the GREATEST, HOTTEST, and MOST SPECTACULAR DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER! Because the Press was extraordinarily bad to me, FAKE NEWS ALL, right from the beginning of my First Term, I boycotted the event, and never went as Honoree. However, I look forward to being with everyone this year. Hopefully, it will be something very Special. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Often referred to as "the nerd prom," the entertainer for the April event will be mentalist Oz Pearlman, a welcome change from the slew of late-night and cable comedians like Jimmy Kimmel (2012), Seth Meyers (2015), Trevor Noah (2016), and Michelle Wolfe (2018), who have dominated the spot, as well as ratcheted up the partisan left and woke diatribes, for years. The 2025 show was a particular embarrassment when the chosen comedienne, Amber Ruffin, was canceled because she refused to moderate her jokes to be less leftist screed and more universal humor.
This year, things began with upheaval weeks ago. The normal practice of having a noted comedian headlining the event was torn asunder when the chosen speaker, Amber Ruffin, ruffled the wrong feathers. She tipped her hand that she would be especially caustic in criticizing President Trump, and after being told to modulate her speech she resisted, leading to new WHCA President Eugene Daniels to cancel her and declare he was “re-envisioning” the dinner to focus on the journalism…something they have never had a problem doing at this affair.
As my colleagues Brad Slager and Bonchie reported (see above links) It was as terrible as it sounds. Weijia Jiang is a left-wing partisan hack who has accused the Trump administration of anti-Asian racism, but as president of the WHCA, she appears to be making an effort to change the tone of the event. We shall see. With Trump now in attendance, it promises to actually be entertaining for a change.
