There are certainly plenty of reasons to celebrate President-elect Donald Trump’s win on Election Day – especially if you happen to be a Republican voter. Preventing Vice President Kamala Harris from becoming the next president brought a sigh of relief to many Americans of all political stripes.
After all, do we really want the White House bathtubs to be used for washing collard greens?
But there is another benefit for all Americans: The sudden death of the January 6th hysteria.
Let us hop into the Political DeLorean and head back to the aftermath of the riot at the United States Capitol building. Democrats and their close friends and allies in the establishment media wrung their hands in front of the cameras, while probably celebrating behind the scenes. After all, they had a brand new weapon to use against the Orange Man What Is Bad™ for years to come, did they not?
And use it, they did.
Following the riot and the fallout that ensued, Democrats colluded with their partners in the media to frame the incident as a direct result of Trump’s actions. They claimed ad nauseam that he had incited the violence that occurred on that day. They even went so far as to squander millions of taxpayer dollars on the House Select Committee to investigate the details surrounding the riot.
The committee conducted a series of useless hearings all to dissuade voters from supporting him in the 2024 election. Major media outlets provided wall-to-wall coverage of the riot and the conversations that followed.
Anniversaries of the incident were marked by celebrations commemorations of the day when a group of people supposedly sought to overthrow the most powerful government on the face of the Earth, using nothing but their fists and MAGA hats. Democrats even pretended the incident was worse than the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The New York Times’ editorial board published an op-ed claiming that “Every Day Is Jan. 6 Now.”
Anti-Trump Republicans like former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) began basing their whole political identity on “Orange Man Bad,” appearing on a multitude of leftist media outlets to caterwaul about how evil Trump and his supporters are. Cheney even admitted publicly that the entire purpose of the Jan. 6 hearings was to make sure a Democratic candidate won the 2024 election.
And it was all for nothing because Trump won, despite the Democrats’ best efforts to blame him for the violence. Sure, most Americans viewed the riot as a negative, regardless of political affiliation. But among Republicans, it wasn’t nearly as big a deal as the media wanted it to be and it certainly wasn’t enough to motivate them to pull the lever for Kamala Harris at the ballot box.
Trump maintained a strong base of support among Republican voters and even managed to increase his numbers among Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters--demographics that typically support Democrats in overwhelming numbers.
Now, as the dust from 2024 settles, we can expect to see a decline in the constant chatter about the riot.
Why?
Because it is no longer useful. Trump won, and that’s all, folks.
Sure, the media won’t stop talking about the riot completely. They still have to bring it up once every blue moon to remind their viewers how deplorable Trump supporters are. But at least we won’t have to hear about the riot every other day. To put it simply, Democrats have now lost one of their most favored political cudgels, and I couldn’t be happier.
The reality is that the riot was bad. But the injustice meted out by President Joe Biden’s Justice Department was far worse. Plenty of people’s lives were ruined simply because they decided to take a stroll inside of the Capitol building after law enforcement officers opened the doors and let them in. These people have suffered a brutal injustice carried out by government officials who wished to use them to make a statement.
Trump has intimated that he intends to pardon most of those who were railroaded by the system for purely political reason – which would be a great move on his part. But a pardon will not erase the years of suffering they endured despite not having violated anyone’s rights.
The Jan. 6 narrative was always going to be a short-term tactic. Had Harris won, it would have accomplished its goal, which means folks on the left would have stopped mentioning it. By the time 2028 rolls around, using Jan. 6 will no longer be a viable strategy.
So, as we enter into a new political season, we can raise a glass to toast the demise of the Jan. 6 narrative – at least until Democrats come up with a new one.
