Council on American-Islamic Relations Skewers Selma Blair for Criticizing ‘Terrorist Supporting Goons’

The pro-Hamas elements in America are still at it. This time, they have actress Selma Blair in their crosshairs over comments she made about the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

This episode further illustrates the progressive left’s penchant for using false allegations of bigotry to attack their political opposition.

The situation started when Blair commented on a video posted on Instagram in which Abraham Hamra criticized lawmakers who voted against a bill that would prohibit from entering the country anyone involved in Hamas’ October 7 surprise attack on Israel that ignited the current conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The comment was made on an Instagram video posted by immigration attorney Abraham Hamra one week ago, in which he calls out U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Cori Bush, D-Mo., for being the only two members of Congress to vote against a measure that would prevent anyone who partook in the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel from immigrating to the U.S.

Hamra, whose Instagram bio refers to him as a speaker and Syrian Jewish refugee, calls Tlaib a “liar,” “moron” and a “hateful antisemite” in the video and said “the truth is, the Jews have been victimized by the Arabs, and not the other way around.”

Tlaib, the only Palestinian American in Congress, said the bill was “redundant with already existing federal law.”

“It’s just another GOP messaging bill being used to incite anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian, and anti-Muslim hatred that makes communities like ours unsafe,” she said.

Blair thanked Hamra in a comment on the video, which was also shared one week ago and has since been removed from the post. NBC News viewed the post before it was removed. It’s unclear who took it down.

“Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds,” Blair wrote in the post. “They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.”

It didn’t take long for the pro-Hamas movement to spring into action, condemning Blair for making supposedly Islamophobic comments. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) was one of the primary entities attacking the actress.

“No one is born a bigot, and we should never assume that someone is doomed to remain a bigot. Based on the hateful and ignorant remarks that Ms. Blair made, we doubt that she has ever engaged in any meaningful interactions with her Muslim colleagues in Hollywood or other members of the American Muslim community,” CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said in a statement.

“We encourage Ms. Blair to apologize, and we also invite her to dialogue with our community. We also call on Hollywood studios and agencies to stop punishing artists who express support for Palestinian human rights while ignoring hateful comments by artists who support the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” Mitchell continued.

Here’s what’s happening in this scenario: Blair rightly criticized those in the United States who are backing Hamas. Her comments reflect a reality that folks on the left would rather avoid: There is a difference between those who have genuine concerns about the Palestinian civilians in Gaza and those who simply despise Israel and are willing to prop up a terrorist organization to pursue their anti-Israel agenda. One can examine the situation in Gaza critically without defending a group that mercilessly slaughtered over 1,000 Israeli men, women, and children on October 7.

Moreover, Blair’s comments about how Arabs have treated the Jewish people were not a wholesale indictment of all Arabs. She was referring to the brutal treatment to which Jews have been subject in the Middle East for ages. Over the past century, Arab nations have inflicted a series of human rights abuses against the Jewish people, including religious oppression, expulsion, and acts of violence.

Of course, this level of nuance is verboten in today’s political climate in which the leftist opinion molders of society would rather paint every situation as black and white and rely on deceptive accusations against those who disagree with them. Unfortunately, this makes it even more difficult to have productive conversations on these matters, which appears to be the ultimate objective for these people.
