Rachel Maddow Offers One of the Weakest Ever Defenses of Joe Biden's Fitness for Office

Democrats and their close friends and allies in the activist media have been in full-on spin doctor mode ever since Special Counsel Robert Hur released his report regarding President Joe Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Predictably, the Special Counsel refrained from recommending charges, but the rest of his report was quite damning when it comes to the issue of Biden’s age and cognitive problems.

Now, the left is doing its best to assure the nation that the president is still fit for office despite Hur’s contention that he is an “elderly man with a poor memory.”

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow attempted to mitigate this revelation in one of the most bizarre ways possible during a Thursday conversation with co-host Chris Hayes, who described how Biden’s age is increasingly becoming an issue.

Hayes said:

Age is the central narrative question here that this all revolves around in terms of its political repercussions, the way the news happened today, the questions being asked him by multiple figures there.

The co-host also pointed out that Biden’s age and mental acuity are issues that former President Donald Trump’s team can exploit to its advantage on the campaign trail. In response, Maddow offered a tepid defense of the president, noting that the president “rides a bike.”

This is probably the worst defense Maddow could have used during this segment. It is highly unlikely that her audience forgot the footage showing the president falling off his bike in 2022. In fact, when the president isn’t taking a dive off of his bike, he is typically falling up the stairs.

The current debacle is the result of Hur’s report, which essentially argued that Biden should not face criminal charges because he did not mean to mishandle critical documents. His office's final analysis contended that Biden’s poor memory was the reason he failed to handle the documents properly.

It gets better. Why is Biden getting a pass? He's an "elderly man with a poor memory."

"We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during out interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," the report states. "Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness."

"Mr. Biden's memory was significantly limited, both during his recorded interviews with the ghostwriter in 2017, and in his interview with our office in 2023

This is devastating. Biden cannot even remember when he was vice president or even within the past several years, when his son died. This is pitiful.

The president and his team have pushed back on the idea that he has memory problems. But the damage has already been done. The fact that Maddow had to put forth such a weak defense seems to indicate that Hur’s investigation will cause more damage to Biden’s chances of being re-elected than was expected. Democrats are currently circling the wagons, but this report will likely be damning nonetheless.
