For some reason, the media seems intent on hyping up Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running an independent campaign for the presidency. Since he has little chance of winning, there has been speculation that not only is he considering running as part of the Libertarian party but also that former President Donald Trump might tap him as his running mate. He was previously running to challenge President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination before switching to his current independent run.
On Saturday, the New York Post reported that sources close to the former president had “made preliminary overtures” to Kennedy about possibly becoming Trump’s running mate.
“Trump operatives expressed an interest in Kennedy early on, but it was all premature,” said one person familiar with the matter, adding that it was “right out of the box when Bobby announced” in April 2023 he was running for president.
“Anything’s possible. I wouldn’t write it off by any means,” the insider continued.
Kennedy, 70, who initially was running as a Democrat but is now an independent, wasn’t interested and has continued to shoot down speculation that he would ever take a job as Trump’s veep.
“I’ve heard the concept. It’s not surprising,” Timothy Mellon, who has donated at least $5 million to Kennedy’s SuperPAC, told The Post.
A second large donor to both Trump and Kennedy said the movement to draft Kennedy — the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy who was assassinated while campaigning for president in 1968 in Los Angeles — is still alive in Trump circles.
The New York Post isn’t the only entity that has speculated on a partnership between Trump and Kennedy.
Yet Steve Bannon, a former chief White House strategist for Trump, who remains close to the former president, has also pushed the idea and said in August that a Trump-Kennedy ticket would produce a “massive landslide.”
On Sunday, Chris LaCivita, a top Trump campaign official, debunked the story, labeling it as “fake news,” and indicated that no member of the campaign approached Kennedy.
This is 100% FAKE NEWS - NO ONE from the Trump Campaign ever approached RFK jr (or ever will) - one of the most LIBERAL and radical environmentalists in the country. For all the fake news- update your stories.

The Trump campaign’s denial should squash the rumors and speculation about a potential Trump/Kennedy ticket. Indeed, it wouldn’t make much sense for the former president to choose a leftist politician for his running mate – especially not an anti-gunner who suggested that business leaders should be imprisoned for opposing climate change hysteria.
This revelation will likely fuel further speculation about who Trump might choose to accompany him on the campaign trail and possibly the White House. Plenty of names have been floated for this role, including entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and even former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
