While much of the focus has been on the Republican Party’s chances of winning back the White House in the 2024 election, the Democratic Party has its own problems. A sizable chunk of the Democratic base is reportedly skeptical about President Joe Biden’s prospects for winning re-election. Concerns over his age and cognitive ability abound, and much of the voting base would prefer a different candidate.
What is interesting – and quite hilarious – about this whole affair is how Biden allies responded when faced with questions about California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his hair gel throwing his hat into the ring. Apparently, if he chose to take the plunge, at least some would view it as racist. Wait ‘till you find out why.
According to individuals in the president’s orbit, Newsom deciding to enter the race would be racially insensitive. This is because it could prevent Vice President Kamala Harris from potentially becoming the nation’s first black female president.
One person deemed a potential threat to the president was Newsom, who has worried people close to the White House by laying the groundwork for a future presidential bid. Biden allies have not been shy about getting the word out that it would be self-defeating for ambitious white male candidates like Newsom to try to snatch the nomination away from Biden and Kamala Harris, who made history as the first woman and person of color to become vice president.
Consider the past: A string of Democratic candidates who failed to lock down Black voters went on to lose the race for the party's nomination — including Bernie Sanders in 2016 and Hillary Clinton in 2008.
“When you had people who were trying to test the waters” for a presidential bid, “the party rose up and made it clear to those individuals — who were mostly white men — that to disrespect the vice president would not be well received by women and people of color within the party,” said Karen Finney, a longtime Democratic strategist. “They got a little bit of a smack in the face.”
That’s right, folks. If Newsom runs for president, it means he is an anti-black racist whose apparent bigotry led him to deprive Harris of the position to which she is overly entitled because of her sex and skin color.
Much of this is speculation, of course. President Biden has given no indication that he has changed his mind about running for a second term despite what the polls say. The Democratic Party has not moved to replace him because they don’t care what their constituents think.
Still, if something did cause Biden to drop out of the race, choosing Black Hillary as the top contender would be about as good an idea as appointing Rep. Eric Swalwell as ambassador to China. As much as Democrats and the media want us to love Harris, she just isn’t it.
Harris’ approval ratings have been in the toilet for most of her tenure as vice president. Indeed, she has some of the lowest ratings of any other vice president in history. She has shown herself to be incompetent as a leader and manager on many occasions.
Newsom, on the other hand, has shown a level of charisma the Democratic Party needs. He is a hypocritical authoritarian, which makes him absolutely perfect to represent the party as a whole. The governor has become a darling on the left, and the base would be far more comfortable with a younger candidate like himself to take up the mantle.
Newsom has already indicated that he does not plan to run, but if Biden were to leave the race, it is doubtful that he could resist the temptation to jump into the fray. If this happens, the Democrats would be absolutely insane to choose Harris over Newsom. But then again, they did back an elderly man with cognitive difficulties, so they have already shown they are capable of making some rather questionable decisions.
