Detransitioners have posed a serious problem for those who want to trans children. Progressives who support puberty blockers, surgery, and other forms of “gender-affirming care” for minors have defended the practice by lying about it, claiming that these treatments do not pose a threat to the mental health of children suffering from gender dysphoria.
Amid the national debate over the issue, many who have decided to reverse their “transitions” have gone public with their stories, and it doesn’t look good for those supporting the “care” model. This is why the left has been trying to silence detransitioners. In the latest development, some of these individuals managed to cancel a documentary about folks who have detransitioned:
AMC Theatres abruptly canceled a film showcasing the voices of young people who have de-transitioned after having hormone therapy and surgeries to purportedly “affirm” their “gender identity.”
“No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care” was set for initial release on June 21 in dozens of theaters across the country. Producers of the film say AMC caved to the pressure of a de-platforming campaign by a transgender group called the Queer Trans Project, which has not had access to view the full film.
Deplorable Films, the company that distributes the documentary, savaged the Queer Trans Project, calling its arguments “a weak, underhanded attempt to conflate detransitioning with that despicable and sometimes devastating practice of the past,” in a written statement.
“It might be worth noting here that [there’s] an infamously repressive theocracy on the other side of the globe where ‘gender-affirming’ surgery is the only option given to gay men and women, who may otherwise be executed under law,” the statement continued.
The company’s response went on to suggest that those trying to silence the film could be “on the payroll of those who profit from this,” namely, “certain surgical clinics and pharmaceutical companies.”
The film includes five young adults who had decided to detransition. It chronicles their stories and the challenges they faced after going through “gender-affirming care.”
Despite attempts to squash their voices, many detransitioners have vociferously spoken out against the effort to push transgenderism on children. Others have begun fighting back using the legal system. A detransitioner named Kayla Lovdahl (who also goes by the pseudonym Layla Jane) has also struck back through the courts. RedState’s Bob Hoge reported:
Kayla Lovdahl, now 18 and detransitioning—or returning to live her life as a female human—was born with XX chromosomes and lived her early life as a girl before tumbling headfirst into the world of gender dysphoria. She filed the lawsuit last week in California‘s San Joaquin County Superior Court and accused the ghouls who approved the procedure of spending only 75 minutes evaluating her before recommending the drastic actions starting when she was only 12. Instead of advising mental health treatment or further evaluation, they instead quickly put her on puberty blockers and testosterone and gave her a double mastectomy when she was 13.
Chloe Chole is another prominent detransitioner who is using lawfare to hold the medical professionals who persuaded her to “transition” accountable:
The Center for American Liberty sued Kaiser Hospitals on behalf of detransitioner Chloe Cole “for pushing her into medical mutilation instead of properly treating her,” according to Cole’s lawyer Harmeet K. Dhillon. Between the ages 13–17 years, Cole underwent a transgender transition, including the off-label use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and a double mastectomy.
“What Kaiser did, for profit, to Chloe in the name of woke ideology instead of sound medical practice, should not happen to any child in America!” Dillon tweeted.
The reason why detransitioners pose a threat to the pro-transing kids movement is because they are living embodiments of the horror that “gender-affirming care” has wrought on far too many young boys and girls. Even further, many of them have become emboldened to speak out and have traveled the country to give testimony before state legislatures considering laws to ban these practices for minors.
Also, if more of them start filing lawsuits against medical professionals who mislead them into believing that puberty blockers and surgery are the cure to their gender dysphoria, it could have a devastating impact on those supporting these procedures. This is why the left is so terrified by detransitioners. But as they continue pushing “gender-affirming care,” they will only create more of these human beings who will strike back through the press and the courts. Perhaps then we will see the decline of this evil and destructive movement.
