Of all the weird stories out in the ether, this one might be one of the weirdest. A New York Police Department (NYPD) official has apparently been driving her staff crazy with her bizarre antics, and it is causing a significant level of turnover. Yet, she somehow still has managed to retain her position with the agency.
The New York Post reports:
More than 10 cops working under Deputy Commissioner Lisa White — who’s in charge of officer morale in the 35,000 uniformed member force — have either transferred or asked to be transferred out of her office because of her off-the-wall shenanigans, including claiming there are ghosts in her office and that workers are bugging her phone, police sources told The Post.
White is facing criticism and controversy within the department and has been accused of exhibiting erratic behavior. Even further, some have questioned her qualifications to perform in her role. Some of her duties are being handed off to First Deputy Commissioner Edward Caban, as her lack of experience and knowledge about the NYPD and its operations have raised concerns among department members.
“Putting a square peg in a round hole isn’t working,” one source told the New York Post. “We need people who are familiar with the New York City Police Department and understand the needs of our line of duty families who are very dear to our heart.”
The unit she oversees is undergoing organizational changes to better support officers’ mental health proactively, but some question White’s suitability for the position. Her wacky behavior has also created a slew of problems for those working under her.
One source in the police department recalled an incident in which White instructed a detective driving her to work to use the lights and sirens so she would not be late. “When the detective refused, White ordered her out, hopped into the driver’s seat and took over, barreling from her Crown Heights apartment to One Police Plaza in lower Manhattan like a bat out of hell,” according to the New York Post.
“She told the driver to pull over and she went behind the wheel and almost got in like f–king five accidents,” the source told the Post. “It was so bad that the driver … said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. Now she’s putting my life at risk.’”
This individual is one of several who have submitted requests to transfer out of White’s unit.
“There’s been a large turnover in that office and more people are requesting to go,” another source said.
White has also alleged that employees were “planting bugs in her office, bugs in her phone,” among other odd behaviors. She even told people that there were “ghosts in her office.”
Not surprisingly, many in the agency would like to see her lose her position. But she has a close relationship with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, having rented a room in her apartment to him for four years.
So, while New York City residents are dealing with heightened crime rates and other issues caused by progressive governance, the NYPD keeps employed a whacko who thinks her office is haunted by Casper the Friendly Ghost because she is friends with the mayor. Is anyone really surprised that people are fleeing the Empire State in droves?
