It turns out that pushing transgenderism among young children is a great way to rake in the cash. A new report explains how a high-profile medical professional has made oodles of cash from two pharmaceutical companies who are currently being investigated for advertising puberty blockers, which are used on children who believe they are transgender.
Breitbart News reported that Dr. Stephen Rosenthal, cofounder and medical director of the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Gender Center, received tens of thousands of dollars from these companies between 2015 and 2021. From the report:
He received $38,704 from pharmaceutical companies between the years of 2015 and 2021, more than 98% of United States endocrinologists did, according to a report from Care Dash, a site that uses public records to track the money that doctors have received as compensation from pharmaceutical companies.
Of that sum, $16,765 came from Endo Pharmaceuticals and AbbVie; payments were linked directly to their products Supprelin LA and Lupron, which are both used off-label as puberty blockers for children who are attempting to change their sex. Public records reveal that Rosenthal has accepted consulting fees from both AbbVie and Endo Pharmaceuticals.
Rosenthal is also linked to the Endocrine Society and served as the President of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. This organization “received over $125,000 from AbbVie between 2017 and 2021,” according to Breitbart.
The doctor is an enthusiastic supporter of “gender-affirming care,” in which medical professionals help young children transition to the opposite gender. A minor could socially transition, meaning that they take on a new name and wear clothing traditionally associated with the opposite gender. Medical transitions involve the use of puberty blockers, which postpone the production of sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen that occur when a child goes through puberty. Surgical transitions involve permanent surgeries such as mastectomies on girls who wish to become boys. This is known as “top surgery.”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating both companies for allegations that they advertised puberty blockers “for unapproved uses without disclosing the potential risks associated with these drugs to children and their parents.” Lupron, in particular, has been used in the past to chemically castrate sex offenders.
The University of California Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Gender Center “offers comprehensive medical and psychological care, as well as advocacy and legal support, to transgender, nonbinary and gender-expansive kids,” and sees patients as young as three years old. It provides puberty blockers and also cross-sex hormone treatment. “By taking hormones associated with their desired gender, patients can develop some of their desired secondary sex characteristics,” according to the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM).
ProPublica published a report showing that doctors are more likely to prescribe a particular drug when they have received payments from the company manufacturing them. This is especially true when the payments are related specifically to the drug being prescribed.
Rosenthal is not the only one cashing in on the transgender craze among minors.
Breitbart News reported that Dr. Jeremi Carswell, the director of the Boston Children’s Hospital gender services division, has also received compensation from Endo Pharmaceuticals, which is currently dealing with a slew of lawsuits related to the opioid epidemic.
Money has always been a factor in the ongoing issue with transgenderism, which is increasingly being pushed in public schools. There is much money to be made, if you are in the business of helping children who believe they are transgender by providing “gender affirming care.” But the impetus behind the movement is more than financial – it is also ideological.
Progressives are hard at work foisting their ideas on gender identity on young children. School districts are infusing their lessons with detailed teachings on transgender matters. They are also helping these children transition to the opposite gender, in many cases behind the parents’ backs. These people are essentially encouraging children – especially girls – to embrace transgenderism, even if they do not have gender dysphoria. But the fact that this endeavor is also lucrative is just the icing on the cake for the medical professionals who support it, which is why they will never stop pushing to have more kids receive these types of treatments.
