Have They Finally Gone Too Far?

Drag queens dance for small children at a nightclub in Dallas, Texas

The far left has been making a series of unusual mistakes over the past few years. It seems that progressive politicians and members of the chattering class have engaged in a rather odd level of overreach on matters that are most important to everyday Americans. Amid skyrocketing crime rates, they argued for decreasing the number of police officers on the street and supported district attorneys who favor releasing arrestees almost as fast as law enforcement brings them in. While America’s children are performing at abysmal levels in school, progressives are more concerned about guaranteeing they accept their radical ideas on race, gender, and sexuality.

But now, they have even ramped up their efforts to expose small children to the world of drag queens. We all remember the Drag Queen Story Hours held in public libraries that elicited widespread outrage a few years ago. Public schools and libraries hosted events in which drag queens came to read to children and glorify dressing in drag. But now, they have turned the dial up to 11 and are holding full-on events in which drag queens dance suggestively in front of children. Even worse, they encourage these kids to participate in the show by giving the dancers money and prancing about the stage with them.

The most recent example occurred in Dallas last week when Mr. Misster, a gay nightclub, hosted an event called “Drag Your Kid to Pride.” Parents brought their kids to watch and perform with drag queens in front of a gigantic flashing neon sign that said, “It’s Not Gonna Lick Itself!”

A reporter from the YouTube channel “Fleccas Talks” interviewed some of the drag queens who performed in the show. One of the performers said the show “was amazing” and said that he “never get[s] to perform in front of children.”

Not surprisingly, people were not too happy about kids being exposed to drag queen shows. A group of protesters gathered outside the club to demonstrate against the event. The Daily Caller reported:

Protestors and supposed attendees clashed outside of the venue. One woman in a rainbow “Love Is Love” t-shirt told a man with a megaphone that he was “scaring children” and repeatedly yelled for him to “shut the f*ck up.”

“Do you think that drag is something that should be pushed into the mainstream?” Aldo asked a man wearing a gay pride Beto O’Rourke shirt.

“It already is, whether people know it or not. A lot of the sayings they use and stuff came straight from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ and so they’re taking it over like ‘shade’ and ‘tea’ and all that is a big part of what’s already in the straight community and they just are embracing it even though they don’t understand where it came from,” the man responded.

Others yelled at the dancers after the event, calling them groomers and asking them why they believed it was appropriate to perform these shows in front of small children. One woman told ABC 8 that she did not approve of the spectacle:

“I live in this community. I have for several years. I don’t believe that I should be seeing signs advertising for children to be dancing on stage with men in thongs and in inappropriate clothing and makeup. I do not in any way condone the behavior that these people are engaging in, but what drags me out here is it’s kids now.”

If one were to take a poll analyzing the attitudes of the average American about the display these folks put on in Dallas, it is highly doubtful most would approve. Nobody wants to see scantily-clad drag queens dancing sexually in front of children. Indeed, even if these were female strippers, it would be the exact same issue. Common sense says you don’t sexualize children in this way.

But the question is: Will this be a bridge too far for most Americans? Progressives have already pushed the envelope to the point where it has ripped. Now, they seek to demolish the thing. Is this going to lead to even more of a backlash against the left as the nation enters into two of the most important election seasons over the next four years in recent memory? Is this yet another factor that will cause the pendulum to swing in conservatism’s direction?

It sure seems like it.

Polling shows Americans do not favor the societal mores the progressive left is pushing. People aren’t sold on their extreme policies. And, whether they like it or not, Democrats have been saddled with the blame for most of this even though the moderate faction has sought to distance itself from the ultra left-wing faction of the party. It is why conservatives are starting to finally win the culture war. Indeed, the far-left is essentially handing over cultural territory on a silver platter. But the question remains: What will conservatives do with the ground they are gaining in the conflict?
