If you’re like many parents, education has become a top issue of concern over the past two years. We have seen story after story revealing how progressives are using the public school system to indoctrinate children into their radical ideology. Far-leftist ideas on race, gender, and sexuality permeate K-12 classrooms. Educators and school staff are also being conditioned to embrace woke principles.
As the problem has metastasized, conservatives and others who oppose this trend have spoken out. Many have become enraged with the reality that too many school districts are fixating more on woke principles than reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic. The nation’s students have suffered as a result.
But the question is: What are we supposed to do about it? It seems these teachings have been so ingrained in the system, it is nearly impossible to fight back. Fortunately, there are ways concerned Americans can shield their children’s minds from this onslaught of wokeism in the school system.
For starters, we have to keep exposing it. It doesn’t matter whether you have a platform with hundreds of thousands of followers or if you only know a few people. We have to make sure as many people are as aware as possible of what is happening in our children’s classrooms. One of the reasons why the left has managed to get away with influencing young minds for decades is because very few were standing against them. Indeed, they did an excellent job at keeping parents in the dark because they knew what kind of backlash they would receive if they pushed this issue.
But now, more and more people are waking up. As I’ve said many times, one of the silver linings of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition from in-school learning to at-home learning was that parents got an up-close-and-personal look at what teachers were presenting to their children–and they weren’t happy about it.
Unfortunately, there are still far too many on the sidelines. We need them on the battlefield. But this will not happen if we don’t wake them up. To this end, I created a database of each news story reporting on ideas inspired by Critical Race Theory (CRT), gender identity, and sexuality being injected into classrooms. I will continue to update it as more stories emerge. This can help people show their loved ones the extent to which this is occurring. Even more, it debunks the lie that teachers are not presenting these topics to K-12 students.
The legal system is also another remedy. Groups like Parents Defending Education (PDE) have had enormous success by filing lawsuits against schools engaging in woke discrimination practices. These include creating affinity groups that exclude students based on skin color. The parent advocacy group has successfully sued these districts and compelled them to stop employing these racist programs.
But you don’t have to belong to an organization to use the legal system, although there are several who have helped individuals like Gabrielle Clark, a mother who filed a lawsuit against her son’s Nevada high school for compelling him to participate in exercises that labeled him an “oppressor,” because he has light skin, despite being half black.
Political power is always a viable strategy – especially at the local level. In this election season, we have already seen hundreds of parents across the country running for – and many winning – seats on their school boards. By the end of the year, we will probably see even more individuals ousting school board members who support the indoctrination.
However, there is a caveat with this method. It will likely take years to see the results of this particular investment of resources, time, and money. Conservatives will need to dominate school boards before they can enact change in public learning institutions. It’s a gradual process. But over the long term, it can go a long way toward ridding the educational system of wokeist ideology.
In the meantime, parents should consider alternatives to the public school system. Indeed, this is probably the most effective way to ensure one’s children are not being influenced by woke educators and administrators. Enrollment in private and charter schools has climbed drastically over the past couple of years. More parents are homeschooling than at any time in recent memory. But many don’t realize there are viable options outside of public schools.
If you live in a state that does not have school choice, it’s time to badger your politicians until they finally enact policies allowing parents to choose where and how their children are educated. This includes your squishy Republican types who talk a big game about school choice but sit on their hands after they take office.
At the end of the day, it’s going to take a national movement to supplant the progressive left from our children’s classrooms. They are not willing to go without a fight. Fortunately, when it comes to public opinion, we are winning. Most of the country is not on board with far-leftist ideas being inculcated in schools. If we want to see change, we have to be willing to fight for it.
