The controversy over an incident that occurred in a Los Angeles spa has not yet died down. Protesters and counterprotesters engaged in demonstrations outside of the spa after a customer complained that a transgender woman exposed her genitals in front of young teen girls in the women’s area. But questions linger over whether the reported ‘disrobing’ incident ever happened, according to one report.

On Saturday, footage recorded by independent journalist Brendan Gutenschwager shows members of Antifa fighting with LAPD officers in front of the spa, as my colleague Nick Arama wrote.

Fox News reported that “LAPD arrested several dozen people and found multiple discarded weapons, including a stun gun, knives, and pepper spray.” In one instance, the footage shows an officer slamming a protester with his baton after the individual spat in his face. Another piece of footage shows an officer shooting an Antifa member with a rubber bullet.

It appears the event and violence were planned beforehand, Fox News reported:

A flyer posted online by the southwest chapter of the Youth Liberation Front, which was described by the Seattle Times as “a persistent militant voice,” encouraged followers to gather at Wi Spa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday to “SMASH TRANSPHOBIA” and “SMASH FASCISM.”

“ROUND TWO MOTHER F******,” the group tweeted.

The protests first started on July 3, almost a week after a customer at Wi Spa took to Instagram to complain about a transgender woman who disrobed and exposed her genitals “right in front of young girls, teens, and grown women.” Two people were stabbed in this incident.

The spa released a statement explaining that it “complies with California law prohibiting discrimination by a business,” and it “does not tolerate harassment or lewd conduct by any customer, regardless of their sex, gender, or other characteristic.”

This story shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that it occurred in Los Angeles. It would be reasonable to expect that this type of situation would arise when people are using facilities that match the gender with which they identify.

However, it is worth noting that there are questions about the person’s claims. So far, it has not yet been confirmed that the disrobing incident actually happened. Indeed, the Los Angeles Blade reported that LAPD explained that “they have been unable to find any corroborating evidence that there was a transgender person present on that day.”

Furthermore, the spa indicated that there was “no record” of its usual transgender clients on that day. “Treatment at the Spa is by appointment only, and most of its transgender clients are well known to the staff,” the Los Angeles Blade reported.

Whether this incident is a hoax or real, it is yet another demonstration of how polarized the country is on this and other issues. It is also proof that Democrats are being deceptive when they claim Antifa is just “an idea.”
