I Support the Democrats' Effort to Impeach President Trump and so Should You

Democrat lawmakers are pressing towards impeaching President Donald Trump again, and I fully support their efforts. Indeed, I consider this move to be best for the country and the Republican Party.

But I don’t support impeachment for the same reasons as columnist David French and National Review’s Andrew McCarthy. Unlike them, I’m not interested in pitiful attempts to seek favor from the left by pandering to their worst impulses.

I am merely observing a maxim coined by Napoleon Bonaparte: “Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake.”

Democrats are already considering how they might file articles of impeachment against Trump, meaning that they fully intend to go forward with one of the most idiotic self-owns that we might see in 2021. If they have completely resolved to beclown themselves in one of the most spectacular displays of political tomfoolery imaginable, why should we oppose it?

House Majority Whip James Clyburn told CNN media activist Jake Tapper that House Democrats will wait until after former Vice President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

You read that right. These rocket scientists want to impeach President Trump after he is already out of office.

“We’ll take the vote that we should take in the House, and (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) will make the determination as to when is the best time to get that vote and get the managers appointed and move that legislation over to the Senate,” he said.

Clyburn added, “It just so happens that if it didn’t go over there for 100 days, it could — let’s give President-elect Biden the 100 days he needs to get his agenda off and running, and maybe we’ll send the articles sometime after that.”

As you already know, the Democrats and their close friends and allies in the activist media have been trying to blame the riots on President Trump and various GOP lawmakers for questioning the outcome of the presidential election. This is the basis on which left-leaning lawmakers will build their shaky case for removing Trump from office when he is already out of office.

Here’s the bottom line: This impeachment effort is as doomed to fail as the first one. As RedState’s Streiff points out, “this is all aimed at labeling Trump as dangerous and unstable. There is no expectation that he’ll be removed, but there is a hope that they can destroy the man and his movement because they know if they don’t, this is all coming back to haunt them in 2022 and 2024.”

So what does all this mean? It’s simple: The Democrats’ effort to impeach President Trump after he is out of office will not only fail, but it will backfire on them in a brutal way. The nation will see that they were willing to squander taxpayer dollars and waste Congress’ time on another ill-fated impeachment fiasco that does nothing to move America forward. They will see it for what it is: A grandstanding act of legislative virtue-signaling that, in the end, means absolutely nothing.

Yes, the riot at the U.S. Capitol building was a horrible look for the conservative movement. But the fact that the overwhelming majority of right-leaning Americans and GOP leaders have denounced the violence will make it hard to see impeachment as a rebuke of conservatism.

Moreover, the over-the-stop overreach that impeachment engenders will turn many Americans off to the Democratic Party. To put it simply, it will damage the leftist cause and bolster the conservative movement.

Of course, to the true believers, the far-left progressive types, it will be a poignant statement against creeping fascism or whatever bovine excrement narrative they come up with.

But to the rest of the nation – the sane folks on the right and left, it will be an utter display of foolishness. It is this type of behavior that made the phrase “this is how you got Trump” popular after 2017. So yes, I fully support the effort to impeach Trump just like I’d support Kim Jong Un drinking rat poison.

So, instead of writing pieces arguing against impeachment, I’ll just continue to point out the absurdity of such a Quixotic undertaking and use it as ammo when 2022 and 2024 come around. After all, why should we complain when the Marxist crowd shoots itself in its collective foot?
