Fund Backed By Kamala Harris Helped To Release Accused Domestic Abusers

It appears that the Minnesota Freedom Fund needs to be more selective about who it bails out of jail. A recent report revealed that the program, which was endorsed by Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, helped to bail out six men who are accused of domestic violence.

According to The Daily Caller News Foundation, the individuals who were freed on bail are alleged to have committed some rather heinous acts. “Two of the men allegedly strangled women in their own homes, and all but one had been previously convicted of domestic violence, court records show,” The Daily Caller wrote.

Another man is accused of “beating his girlfriend upwards of six times with a closed fist.” Court records show that “all but one of the individuals had been convicted of prior domestic violence-related charges when the Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF) helped bail them out of jail.”

In June, Harris urged her supporters to donate money to the MFF in a post on Twitter. The fund was originally intended to bail out individuals who were arrested while participating in violent protests after the death of George Floyd. The program is still accepting donations but in September, the MFF revealed that only about six percent of the donations it has spent actually went to bail protesters out of jail.

This isn’t the first time the fund has come under fire. Previously, the Daily Caller reported people accused of other violent crimes, including sexual assault, strangulation, and battery. RedState’s Mike Miller reported on a case in which a man who sexually penetrated an 8-year-old was bailed out with help from the MFF.

As the protests continue, it can be expected that there could be even more individuals who are released from jail because of the MFF, who obviously does not vet the people they are helping. It’s especially ironic that those who are avoiding jail are those who victimize women. Shouldn’t this violate the principles of the #MeToo movement?

Judging by the clear lack of oversight, it appears that those who are running the MFF aren’t too serious about its stated purposed. The fact that such a small percentage goes towards bailing out protesters also demonstrates a serious lapse in judgment on the part of Harris, who should know better. But the reality is that the MFF isn’t only about helping protesters, it’s a program designed to promote various lefty causes as well, which is likely why the senator has no problem supporting it.

According to the program’s website, they have raised more than $30 million. They claim that they will use the funds that don’t go towards bailing out protesters to their stated mission of assisting others “who can’t afford to pay bail bond,” and also “advocating to end the discriminatory practice of bail and pretrial detention.”
