It seems that there is just something about people having jobs that sets her off. In a recent appearance on an online television show, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) urged Americans to refuse to return to work as the United States prepares for the restarting of the economy.

Vice TV is going to air a show called “A Seat at the Table” which features commentary from AOC. The left-leaning news outlet reported that “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for a national work boycott. The Congresswoman says Americans should refuse to go back to work.”

On the show, AOC, who earns a salary of $174,000 per year, said:

“When we talk about this idea of reopening society you know, only in America —does the president — when the president tweets about liberation — does he mean go back to work. When we have this discussion about going back or reopening, I think a lot people should just say no — we’re not going back to that.”

She added, “We’re not going back to working 70-hour weeks just so that we can put food on the table and not even feel any sort of semblance of security in our lives.”

The lawmaker’s comments were a response to Trump’s series of tweets calling on Americans protesting excessive COVID-19 restrictions to “LIBERATE” themselves from their government’s policies. But this was only the latest remarks she has made against the idea of Americans working.

Earlier this week, she posted a now-deleted tweet celebrating the loss of jobs in the oil industry, which occurred after oil prices plummeted below zero. She tweeted: “You absolutely love to see it. This along with record low interest rates means it’s the right time for a worker-led, mass investment in green infrastructure to save our planet. *cough*.”

As is her usual modus operandi, she was once again advocating for Americans to lose their jobs so that she and her ilk could pursue their pie-in-the-sky Marxist agenda disguised as a sincere attempt to keep us all from perishing by solar immolation due to climate change. But her tone-deaf comments were yet another display of her contempt for everyday American workers.

Remember when AOC lobbied against Amazon moving its headquarters to New York City? The deal between the e-commerce giant and the city would have created tens of thousands of jobs. But, Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t have that. She helped to lead the fight against the move, which would have done wonders for the city’s economy. The company eventually decided against setting up shop in the area.

So what gives? Why exactly is AOC so stridently against jobs? In this current environment, she is joining with her progressive comrades in pushing for the extension of stay-at-home orders that have kept Americans from working. Over 20 million people have filed for unemployment benefits and the rate of those without work has climbed up to 15%. Surely she can’t be happy about this, right?

Perhaps I’m giving her too much credit. AOC, like others in her camp, is more than content to see Americans out of work if it results in a bigger, stronger, and more intrusive government. You see, when people are working, they are less reliant on the state, and as we are already aware, no self-respecting Marxist can bear the thought of people not being in a position in which the government must provide for all their needs.

The more Americans have to depend on the government, the easier it will be for the far left to impose their socialist agenda on the populace. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the Democrats have tried to hold up funding for small businesses while pushing for more of a stimulus for individuals.

It also explains why they are trying to extend the shutdown orders for as long as possible; they would much prefer that people have their needs met by the state than working to make their own success. This is because they understand that the more Americans are working, the less relevant the government becomes. They can’t have that, can they?
