Will Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) finally get his comeuppance?

California Rep. Devin Nunes recently indicated that he is considering “legal remedies” against Schiff for his decision to secretly subpoena, and publicize the phone records of high-profile Republicans close to President Donald Trump. Schiff and the DNC have continued to be under scrutiny since the lawmaker obtained these phone records as part of the Democatic Party’s failed attempt to remove Trump from office.

In an appearance on the Examining Politics podcast, Nunes told host Larry O’ Connor that he is seeking ways to hold Schiff accountable for his questionable actions. “We’re going to look at all the legal remedies that we can take,” he said. Schiff has been subject to criticism for targeting members of the GOP of political purposes.

“The phone call logs, subpoenaed from AT&T and Verizon, appear in a 658-page December report from House Democrats, including records of some phone calls by Nunes, presidential lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jay Sekulow, journalist John Solomon, Fox News host Sean Hannity, indicted Giuliani associate Lev Parnas, and others.”

Nunes, along with many others, have slammed Schiff, calling his conduct an “abuse of power.” He indicated that the lawmaker violated the law by obtaining and publicizing the phone records. “I’m in California, so for sure, state law, you cannot release somebody’s phone records,” he insisted. “So, for sure, that right has been violated.

He continued:

“But, we also have to look at the constitutional aspects of this, and do all the members of Congress have a right to privacy, and can just one member, because he doesn’t like someone and he’s a political opponent of someone, can that member just subpoena records and then release just to embarrass or to create a distraction or to build whatever fantasy-land narrative that they continue to build?”

Schiff has dismissed the criticisms on multiple occasions, implying that it’s only the “far-right” that takes issue with his actions. “Every investigator seeks phone records … Here, we had testimony that the president charged Rudy Giuliani with carrying out this plot. Naturally, we wanted phone records to point out that they had those conversations,” he insisted.

Nevertheless, Nunes seems intent on taking Schiff to task, noting that this is an “unprecedented” action, “especially for a party who claims they’re for protecting people’s civil liberties.” He continued, stating that “These people are a bunch of phonies, they’re frauds, and they’re dangerous to America, along with 90% of the media hacks that are out there that essentially just work for billionaire Democrats.”

Judicial Watch has also targeted those responsible for allowing the phone records to be subpoenaed and revealed. They filed a lawsuit last year demanding that the content of the subpoenas be made public. Attorneys who previously worked for the Obama administration are fighting to keep these subpoenas hidden from the American people.

The impeachment debacle was an ugly political battle that essentially started the moment President Trump took office. The Democrats were salivating over the thought of removing him from office through the impeachment process – likely because they know they have slim chances of beating him at the ballot box. The notion that a Democratic lawmaker would basically dox members of their opposition for political purposes is no surprise given the current political climate.

But when will any of these people be held accountable? So far, it seems that most of these individuals are getting away with their skullduggery, and punishment does not seem to be on the horizon. Unfortunately, this appears to be the status quo, and it will not change until someone actually drains the swamp.
