No Mayor Pete, Maybe it’s Democrats Who are 'Looking the other way on Racism’

Well, it looks like Mayor Pete Buttigieg has stepped in it again. On Tuesday, the Democratic presidential hopeful made an outrageous race-baiting claim about people who support President Donald Trump. “Anyone who supported this President is at best looking the other way on racism, at best, he said. Perhaps he wasn’t expecting his comments to go viral, but they did.

As my colleague, Nick Arama pointed out, “It’s not the best idea to insult and demonize Americans if you’re trying to win their vote. But on top of insulting half the country, he also repeated a claim that progressives like himself constantly make about Republicans: They’re all frothing-at-the-mouth racists who hate anyone except white Christian males.

It’s been a clever tactic up until now, especially since previous GOP politicians refused to defend themselves against this charge. But along with painting conservatives as raging bigots, they have accomplished something else: Distracting the public from the racism that exists in the Democratic Party.

For starters, which party is the one that encourages open borders policies that would allow thousands and thousands of migrants to enter the country illegally? And which group of Americans disproportionately suffers as a result? That’s right. The Democrats have opposed the Trump administration’s efforts to curb illegal immigration at every turn. And the influx of illegal aliens has cost black Americans tons of jobs.

Labor Lawyer Peter Kirsanow, who works with the Center for Immigration Studies, argued that “Forty percent of the decline in labor participation rates among black workers over three decades was attributable to competition from illegal immigration.” Even The Washington Post acknowledged the devastating economic impact of illegal immigration on the black community.

So why would the Democrats support policies that clearly hurt the black community? Possibly it’s because they wish to pander to immigrants, both legal and illegal. They are willing to throw black Americans under the bus to gain an electoral advantage.

But what about police brutality? Anytime a black man is shot by a police officer — whether the shooting was justified or unjustified — progressive talking heads rage against the apparent racism involved in the incident. Groups like Black Lives Matter march in the streets in protest of the injustice. Different studies disagree on whether blacks are more or less likely to be shot by the police, but one thing is clear: Blacks and Hispanics are far more likely to become victims of excessive force on the part of police officers.

Police brutality doesn’t just involve shootings, it includes any violent action that an officer takes that wasn’t necessary to apprehend a suspect. A recent Harvard study revealed some interesting facts about police brutality against minorities.

The study showed that when it comes to non-lethal uses of force, “blacks and Hispanics are more than fifty percent more likely to experience some form of force in interactions with police.” Moreover, they stated that “adding controls that account for important context and civilian behavior reduces, but cannot fully explain, these disparities.”

But when it comes to officer-involved shootings against minorities, they found “no racial differences in either the raw data or when contextual factors are taken into account.”

But the question is this: In which cities do these acts typically occur? Here’s a hint: It ain’t Boise, Idaho, folks. In fact, the worst five cities when it comes to police brutality are Phoenix, AZ, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Columbus, OH, and Las Vegas, NV.

Guess who runs these cities? You got it! It’s the Democrats. What makes this even worse is that not only do these officers abuse their authority, the system is set up in a way that allows them to get away with it. Yes, we know the majority of police officers are decent people. But there are plenty who are not, and one would think that the ones who scream the loudest about the problem would be doing the most to stop it. Unfortunately, the opposite is true.

Last, but most certainly not least, we have the education problem. As you probably know, black cities typically provide the lowest-quality education in the country. Again, in which city are black students faring the worst? That’s right — Democrat-run cities. One of the possible solutions to this problem is school choice — allowing black parents to choose which schools they wish to place their children in. Instead of Mother State deciding which schools black children are allowed to attend, the parents get a say.

But you might not believe the level of disdain the Democrats show towards black parents who want school choice. Or perhaps you would, after seeing this clip at a recent Elizabeth Warren rally in which school choice protesters were shouted down by the rest of the crowd.

The notion that black parents should be prohibited from choosing where to send their kids to school is patently racist, isn’t it? But progressives know that increasing the quality of education makes it less likely that a person will have to rely on the government. So they can’t have these “uppity” black parents making schools compete for the education of their children, can they?

So there you have it, folks. If we’re applying Mayor Pete’s logic, anyone voting Democrat is looking the other way on racism because the Democrats support policies and governance that is clearly racist. In fact, these are only a few of the racist policies they support; I left out gun control and abortion.

Now, do I really believe that regular rank-and-file Democrats don’t care about racism? Of course not. Most of their voters likely have no idea how horribly progressive policies have harmed the black community. But it is difficult to believe that the top leadership of the Democratic Party and the hard left factions are unaware. As I stated previously, perhaps this is the reason why they constantly hurl false accusations of racism at conservatives. It can be an effective tactic, until you’re exposed.
