If you want to find the most pro-life members of Congress, you need to find who has the highest score from the Club For Growth, not National Right to Life Committee. Why? Because back in the day, National Right to Life decided to whore itself to congressional Republicans while Club For Growth has stood firm for liberty.
Consequently, National Right to Life was in favor of expanding government under Medicare Part D as a useful tool for George W. Bush while Club For Growth held the line. The perverse result was to see pro-life champions like Jim DeMint, Jim Ryun, Mike Pence, Pat Toomey, and Marilyn Musgrave dinged in the National Right to Life scorecard for daring to oppose big government while [mc_name name=’Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’P000197′ ] got rewarded.
In fact, if you believe in smaller government, you don’t want the government funding abortions. So you’re going to get members who may privately be pro-abortion actively working against the abortion cause to get a good score from Club For Growth. Meanwhile, the National Right to Life score just shows how the better Republican, not conservative, is.
Likewise, the best members of Congress and the ones most likely to challenge [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] have been supported by Club For Growth. Look at the members who routinely challenge House and Senate Republican Leaders and you will find members who rank at the top of the Club For Growth scorecard.
The Club For Growth routinely challenges bad Republicans and has become a champion of anti-establishment challengers willing to take on the party and the Chamber of Commerce in the name of free markets, smaller government, and individual liberty.
Consequent to its mission, the Club For Growth is under the threat of a lawsuit from a Hillary Clinton supporting Democrat who also funded [mc_name name=’Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’P000197′ ]. The Club For Growth dared to point out that the Democrat has supported universal, government funded healthcare, he has supported tax increases, he has supported amnesty, and he has supported a host of other Democrat positions.
But that Democrat has decided to run as a Republican for President now and is threatening to sue the Club For Growth for exposing his prior statements that directly contradict his present positions.
The Club For Growth has pushed the GOP in Congress to the right. It is one of the few groups that the party leadership fears. And the party leadership is no doubt gleeful the Club is being bullied now by a Democrat masquerading as a Republican for convenience.
I support the Club For Growth. I am happy to contribute $200.00 to their cause. I hope you might consider contributing as well.
