If You Criticize Obama, Kurt Eichenwald Thinks You Are A Sinner

Kurt Eichenwald is the non-religious scholar who wrote a screed against Christianity in Newsweek that contained basic factual errors. Not only did it contain basic factual errors, it also took criticisms of non-Christians as fact without any rebuttal by believers. It would be as if Eichenwald decided believers in global warming cannot be trusted to be know the facts and only skeptics can be believed.

Eichenwald has subsequently gone on a tirade on twitter proving how extremely ignorant he is of Christianity, from his presumption that Christians are okay with sin except against gays to presuming that the Bible is not the word of God to somehow claiming the Bible doesn’t acknowledge a triune God because the word “trinity” is not used.

In short, Eichenwald does not care to understand how 2000 years of Christian orthodoxy views the Bible and reads the Bible, but rather he just wants to troll and deem any response to him as an unsatisfactory rebuttal.

It is worth pointing out again that Eichenwald has no intention of arguing in good faith. He intends to undermine and paint Christianity maliciously. To claim otherwise would be foolish considering both the basic factual errors of his original piece and the fact he did not bother to cite a single orthodox Christian rebuttal to the points he made in his screed.

If you needed any more, consider this tweet from Eichenwald:

For those of you as ignorant of the Bible as Eichenwald clearly is, he refers to this passage:

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Romans 13:1-4 (ESV)

ESV stands for “English Standard Version,” Kurt.

On Eichenwald’s standard, Jesus Christ was a sinner violating Romans 13:1-4.*

Christ criticized the ruling authorities of his day. In fact, Romans 13 is very clearly focused on actual rebellion and law breaking. Me writing at RedState or talking on radio or television and criticizing the government is not in play here. Me texting while driving is in play here.

The First Amendment allows me speech and debate. The law in Georgia does not allow me to text and drive.

In fact, even then there is a long history tradition and clear statements from Jesus himself that God’s law comes first and if the state compels a person to violate God’s law, it is better to uphold God’s law and be punished by the state than violate God’s law.

The fact that I even have to write this to explain it to Eichenwald — essentially taking Jesus, plus Paul, plus 2000+ years of orthodox church teachings — is just another example of how ignorant Eichenwald is about Christianity and just wants to troll the faithful for Newsweek traffic and personal edification.

* Actually, given Eichenwald’s screed, it is pretty apparent he’d claim that Jesus came before Paul’s letters to the Romans and therefore is not bound by it. HAHAHA.
