FILE – In this June 8, 2017, file photo, former FBI director James Comey testifies before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Comey blasts President Donald Trump as unethical and “untethered to truth” and his leadership of the country as “transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty.” Comey’s comments come in a new book in which he casts Trump as a mafia boss-like figure who sought to blur the line between law enforcement and politics and tried to pressure him regarding the investigation into Russian election interference. At Sunday’s White House briefing, a reporter asked President Trump, “Have you thought of pardoning Paul Manafort or Roger Stone so they’re not exposed to the virus?”
The President responded:
Well I’ll just tell you this. Roger Stone was treated very unfairly. Paul Manafort, the black-book turned out to be a fraud. We learned that during the last weeks and months. They had a black-book that came out of Ukraine. Turned out to be a fraud. They convicted a man – turned out to be a fraud. General Flynn was a highly respected person and it turned out to be a scam on him. The FBI said he didn’t lie. And Mueller’s people wanted him to go to jail. Okay.
So what am I going to do? You’ll find out what I’m going to do. I’m not going to say what I’m going to do. But I will tell you the whole thing turned out to be a scam. And it turned out to be a disgrace to our country. And it was a takedown of a duly elected president. And these people suffered greatly. General Flynn? I mean what they did to him…And no bigger fan of the FBI than me…But the top of the FBI was scum and what they did to General Flynn and you know it and everybody knows it was a disgrace…
I’m surprised Trump hasn’t pardoned any of them already. However, according to investigative reporter John Solomon, we may be seeing some action against top Obama officials this week. In a Friday night appearance on Fox Business News’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” Solomon said, “there has been some criminal investigative activity that he thinks will result in some action. He added that we could see a handful of indictments next week and much more information.” I posted about Solomon’s remarks on Saturday here.
What Obama’s FBI (and other top officials) did to these men, President Trump, and others associated with him was criminal and if no one is held accountable, the American people will know that the rule of law no longer exists. We’ve waited a long time for justice to be served in what can only be described as the biggest scandal in U.S. political history.
The most senior members of the FBI abused their authority and violated their oath of office to deprive @GenFlynn, @GeorgePapa19, Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and others of liberty and freedom. Without accountability, the FBI will never again have credibility.
