In this Jan. 22, 2020, photo released on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, by China’s Xinhua News Agency, medical workers of the Union Hospital with the Tongji Medical College of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan participate in a ceremony to form an “assault team” to battle against a coronavirus epidemic in Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province, Jan. 23, 2020. China closed off a city of more than 11 million people Thursday in an unprecedented effort to try to contain a deadly new viral illness that has sickened hundreds and spread to other cities and countries in the Lunar New Year travel rush. One after another, our friends from across the aisle have beclowned themselves as they try to politicize the Wuhan virus. First, I thought I might compile a list of stupid comments they’ve made this week. But I found so many from just the last day, that I decided to go with those.
As I was looking for the seventh or eighth, I came across such a doozy from David Brooks that he went straight to the top of the list – although Alyssa Milano still remains a close second.
Just before this was about to post, I discovered a clip of Rachel Maddow speaking to The New York Times’ health and science reporter, Donald McNeil. The two agreed that China dealt with the Coronavirus better than the U.S. has. So, I added that as a bonus!
Here goes:
1. David Brooks (New York Times political analyst)
I get the sense that this is not only the low point of the Trump presidency but the low point of the American presidency ever. Has any president ever been this overmatched by a crisis?

2. Alyssa Milano (actress)
I have tears in my eyes watching @JoeBiden right now. Thank God for his leadership during this crisis.

3. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA)
“Since the beginning of the #COVID19 outbreak, we have seen not only the spreading of the virus, but also a rapid spreading of racism and xenophobia. We have witnessed it in fact at the highest levels of the Republican Party fanning irresponsibly these flames. One colleague tweeted quote “Everything you need to know about the Chinese coronavirus.” My district is home to nearly 32% foreign born residents with more than a quarter immigrating from Asia. This painful rhetoric has consequences. Restaurants across Boston’s China town have seen up to an 80% drop in business. And I believe this has to do with the rapid spread of misinformation and paranoia. It is critical that we stand against these inciteful messages.”

Thank you @AyannaPressley for calling this out. pic.twitter.com/3lMuKl1pEh

4. Jennifer Rubin (Washington Post columnist)
Everyone watching this is thinking they've give anything to have Biden take over TODAY

5. E. Jean Carroll (accused President Trump of sexual assault in 2019)
Tweet has been deleted. Here’s what it said:
Trump is now doing to America what he did to me and 20 other women.

6. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
"In terms of potential deaths…the crisis we face is on a scale of a major war…we also have to face the truth and that is that the number of casualties may actually be even higher than what the armed forces experienced in World War II." -Bernie Sanders pic.twitter.com/mMPbfcl2aT

7. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
I know this is all hard for you, @realdonaldtrump, so let me spell it out:
– Free testing
– Fee waivers
– Emergency sick leave
– Quarantines
– Cancellations

8. AOC
Want to know one major reason why South Korea has had stellar rapid response and quickly produced & scaled up to 10k+ tests/day?
They have a single payer, #MedicareForAll system.
We don’t.
Please remember why it’s so important for us to fight for healthcare as a human right.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 12, 2020
9. Anne Applebaum (writer at The Atlantic)
China has reacted to the outbreak of coronavirus in Italy by sending aid. The US has reacted by suspending flights. Who is the superpower? https://t.co/TsM3Eu7KR7

10. Former Vice President Joe Biden
Joe Biden:
We should not "fall back on xenophobia. Labeling COVID-19 a 'foreign virus' does not display accountability for the misjudgments that have taken thus far by the Trump administration." pic.twitter.com/stiawsHOEG
