After Attorney General William Barr failed to accommodate the House Democrats’ demand that the Mueller Report be released by April 2, liberal advocacy groups staged small rallies in Washington, D.C., NYC and several other cities across the country. A Reuters reporter estimated the crowd size in Washington to be 250 people and said roughly 300 people attended the NYC rally.

One speaker asked the crowd, “What are they so afraid of us seeing?”

Another said, “We got a handpicked attorney general to cover it up. Handpicked.” No one reminded her that all attorney generals are handpicked by presidents. She continued, “And now we hear that the prosecutors in the special counsel’s office are telling the American people that essentially the Attorney General has misled the country.

They also sang songs. “We will, we will, we will, we wi-i-ill. 2020.” (Song can be heard in the video above.) The activists took the time to create a song booklet. The lyrics to songs 16-19 can be seen in the tweet below. Song #16, “Next Plane to Moscow,” was sung to the tune of the old Monkees song, “Last Train to Clarksville.”

The Democrats have so much invested in this fight, I suppose it’s hard for them to let it go.

For some, such as Rachel Maddow, it might be impossible. @MoveOn quoted her in the tweet below. “What these protests were about today is a real-live, active fight that is underway, and we really don’t know how it’s going to end. … But ultimately history teaches us that when presidents try this stuff, they lose.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter, whom Tucker Carlson calls “The Eunuch,” expressed his impatience. He’s very tired of waiting, poor thing.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who won a committee vote to subpoena the document on Wednesday, addressed the group in Washington. He said, “The Constitution gives Congress the power to take the appropriate action to hold the president accountable. To do our job we need the Mueller report.”

The Mueller team concluded that Trump had not engaged in collusion with Russia, but had punted on the question of whether or not he had obstructed justice. In his four page summary, Barr said that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had determined that Trump had not.

At issue was Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey and his request that Comey go easy on then-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

A president is granted the power to fire any official at any time and also holds the power to pardon a citizen who has been accused or convicted of a federal crime. (Trump wasn’t even asking for a pardon.) Why then, do Democrats insist that Trump obstructed justice? A rhetorical question only.

The sparse attendance at these rallies indicates that “The Resistance” has dwindled in number since Barr released his summary of the report, but there are still some wishful thinkers who will hang on until the bitter end.
