We’ll call it Nolan’s Wall.
The New York Post’s Michael Goodwin received a letter from one of his reader’s last week, a gentleman by the name of Nolan Thomson Hare. Concerned over the refusal of Congressional leaders to fund a border wall, Hare wrote: “Can you please give me a note about where I can find a campaign organized to collect money from the general public?”
Goodwin posed this idea to his readers and one suggested that if each of Trump’s 63 million voters contributed $80, the wall could be built.
What an excellent idea! I can’t think of a stronger demonstration of “We The People” than this. It’s revolutionary. It’s a modern day version of an action our founding father’s would have taken if faced with a similar dilemma. They were willing to lay down their lives for our country. All we have to do is make a contribution.
Most Trump voters can and would contribute even more than the suggested $80. For those who simply cannot contribute at this time, others will pick up the slack.
Trump supporters aren’t the only people who believe in the need for a border wall. Polls have shown that the majority of Americans support this issue. I would be willing to bet that a number of the 65 million Clinton voters and even some of those who didn’t cast a vote in 2016 would contribute as well.
What a powerful message this would send to Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and their minions.
It would be similar to the Dunkirk evacuation following the disastrous Battle of France during World War II.
The Dunkirk evacuation, code-named Operation Dynamo, also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France, between 26 May and 4 June 1940. The operation commenced after large numbers of Belgian, British, and French troops were cut off and surrounded by German troops during the six-week long Battle of France. In a speech to the House of Commons, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called this “a colossal military disaster”, saying “the whole root and core and brain of the British Army” had been stranded at Dunkirk and seemed about to perish or be captured. In his “we shall fight on the beaches” speech on 4 June, he hailed their rescue as a “miracle of deliverance”.
The people of England performed a miracle. The situation demanded it and they did not disappoint.
Although a border wall is necessary for national security reasons, this grassroots effort would serve another significant purpose. Trump campaigned on the promise to build this wall. If he is unable to fulfill this pledge, it would hurt his chances for reelection. If instead, he was able to add this to his already impressive list of accomplishments, especially in the face of strident Democratic opposition, it would boost his prospects in 2020.
We can do this. We have to do this.
