There's a powerful force of nature happening on the internet right now, and it's one that humanity doesn't know how to counter or fight against.
It's the meme, and right now, the memes being created could literally change the outcome of the 2028 election.
While that sounds a bit bombastic, I wouldn't underestimate the power of memetic communication. The nature of memes is that it can communicate an entire conversation's worth of ideas in a single frame, and change someone's mind about an issue or topic through humor.
Right now, the top meme being communicated in the political realm is that vice-President J.D. Vance is the man.
If you've been on X at any point within the last few weeks, Vance memes are the top seller in the meme economy. People are making them left and right, and what's funny is that they don't always make Vance look cool. More often than not, they make him look silly, and most of these memes aren't being made by the left, they're being made by Vance's own supporters.
(As of this writing, the attack on X left the embed function down and broken. As such, I'll just post links to the tweets themselves)
For instance, this one has J.D. Vance's face placed on Bonnie Blue, the famous OnlyFans porn star, with "OnlyVance" written at the bottom.
This one has fat Vance's head on Kim Kardashian's body in the famous champagne bottle picture.
This one has a fat, nerdy J.D. Vance holding up J.D Vance meme cards.
Here's fat J.D. Vance with long curly hair in The Matrix.
And, of course, the same J.D. Vance as Thanos.
The funny thing about this is that some of these memes started as leftist attacks, but the right co-opted them and ran with it. Why would they do it?
I think Tim Pool actually nailed it in a conversation he had about the memes. There are going to be people who don't get why Vance's own supporters would make memes that make fun of Vance, and a lot of these people are going to be women. Not bashing women, but the way men and women communicate is different.
When men like each other, they'll actively make fun of one another. It's how we express ourselves to one another in a way that might not seem close, and possibly even confrontational, but it's actually an expression of appreciation and respect.
But during the course of that conversation, Pool made another good point.
These memes are elevating J.D. Vance into a position for the White House in 2028 by making him a household name on humor alone. Vance himself even understands the value of this, as he's shared Vance memes himself.
These memes are communicating to the public that Vance is fun, culturally relevant, and culturally irreverent at the same time. He can laugh with us, even at himself, making him more relatable and approachable. His levity stands in stark contrast to leftist severity, which makes him even more endearing to the people.
You've probably seen man-on-the-street interviews where people can't even name who the vice-President is, but Vance is less likely to have these problems thanks to these memes, and having name recognition can go a long way to helping someone decide who to vote for in an election.
You can ask Donald Trump about that. His time on "The Apprentice" is largely credited with paving the way to his 2016 win because it helped to make Trump a household name.

Politics is downstream of culture, and Vance is being inserted into the culture in a way that is more or less unlooked-for but powerful nonetheless. Memes are a powerful cognitive tool, especially in the age of the internet, and Vance starring in so many — especially in the form of good-natured mocking — is making him a cultural mainstay.
It's the kind of popularity politicians wish they could get, but rarely do.
Now, does this guarantee Vance a win in 2028? Of course not. Moreover, if the left plays their cards right, they can use that newfound awareness of Vance against him by placing a lot of blame for various things on him, or even using moments to make him look stupid, which is a favorite tactic of theirs. Think the "potatoe" incident with Dan Quayle, which he never lived down.
However, if Vance continues to be an impressive statesman in his role as VP, his combined political and cultural relevance will make him an insanely strong candidate come 2028. Since Vance doesn't have a TV show like his boss, memes are the next best thing to get him into the cultural eye.
Funny how something seemingly bad or even small can make such a huge difference in someone's career.
But that's how things are when it comes to the public. Narrative is everything, and today, no one generates narratives quite like internet denizens. Not that that's going to stop the legacy media and the left from trying. They're weakened severely, but they aren't gone.
