Obama Speech: Multiply Failure, Divide the Country

What has always amazed me about Democrat policies is that they feign outrage over the need to implement them, even though they have already been championed by both parties, and have produced negative results.  Government has already invested in crony capitalism and has already micro-managed every sector of the economy; from higher education to agriculture, health care, and energy.  Many of these policies have been supported by administrations and congresses controlled by both parties.  And they have driven up costs; not lowered them.  For goodness sake, that’s why we are still debating these problems decades after those very policies have been implemented.

Obama’s speech was the same stale central-planning and class warfare, not just from his older speeches, but from every Democrat speech this century.

Every line of the speech is not grounded in reality; it would take copious pages to rebut.  Here is just the policy side from some lines and the summary of his plan that was sent out to the media:

If you choose this path, we can cut our oil imports in half by 2020 and support more than 600,000 new jobs in natural gas alone.

So after 4 years of shutting down oil drilling, nuclear power, blocking the pipeline, and the war on coal, we will suddenly cut oil imports in half?  The sad thing is that Obama is not lying.  He will cut net imports in half; not by producing more oil, but by shutting down our economy and mandating the usage of ineffectual phantom fuels, such as ethanol, wood chips, switch grass, algae, and horse manure.

As for natural gas, we all know what he means.  He wants massive subsidies for an industry that is already booming.  In other words, he wants to double down on the T. Boone Pickens subsidies – a policy that Boone Pickens has already renounced.

We’ve opened millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration in the last three years, and we’ll open more.

Wow – What a difference 4 years makes.  He lost the energy argument and is forced to extol the virtues of evil fossil fuels.  The problem is that he lied.  He actually issued a record low number of drilling permits.  The increased production has occurred on state and private lands.  Hence, the dichotomy between North Dakota and federally owned lands.

Help me recruit 100,000 math and science teachers in the next ten years, and improve early childhood education. Help give two million workers the chance to learn skills at their community college that will lead directly to a job. Help us work with colleges and universities to cut in half the growth of tuition costs over the next ten years.

Excuse me, you have already spent more subsidizing higher education than any other president.  As part of the same bill that implemented Obamacare, you federalized student loans.  Yet, despite those interventions, or more aptly put, because of those inflationary market-distortions, the cost of tuition continues to increase.  You say so yourself, and that is presumably why you are proposing more spending.

According to the College Board tuition at public colleges has risen 150% since 1990, to an average $8,244 per student this past academic year.  Not surprisingly, government subsidies and grants rose by 242% over the same time period.  And you have the temerity to double down on those same policies that have engendered the very problem you seek to address?

As for the recruiting of teachers, we all know what he means.  Growing the teachers’ unions.  We spend more money per capita than any other nation on education, yet we have consistently declined in math and science performance.  We’ve tried that, Obama; it has not worked.  For the record number of inferences to “right to choose” at this convention, how about the right to school choice?  It works well in Wisconsin and Louisiana.  Why not try something that has not already failed?

We can help big factories and small businesses double their exports, and if we choose this path, we can create a million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years.

Let’s keep score.  He wants to impose massive tax increases, his EPA, NLRP, DOE and DOI are imposing crushing new rules and regulations that he has promised to enforce if elected.  His trial lawyer buddies and environmental legal defense groups are scavenging the remaining manufactures by shaking them down with endless lawsuits.  Heck, he wants to implement cap and trade.  And he promises to create 1 million jobs?  With what?  Spitballs?

As for exports, if Obama continues his spending spree (“investments”), there will be no incentive for foreign countries to invest in our products and services when they can continue to purchase treasuries that service our debt.   It’s Obama’s debt, along with his crushing regulatory state that is stifling exports.

“Invest in the economy with the money we’re no longer spending on war.”

So Obama is using phony war savings that we don’t plan on spending anyway as deficit reduction!

And here is the comedy line of the night:

Independent analysis shows that my plan would cut our deficits by $4 trillion.

So the man who increased the debt by $5.4 trillion in less than 4 years is going to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion by spending even more money and the same failed policies?  There’s only two ways to make sense of that; either he is lying or he plans to raise taxes.  The tax increases would have to be enormously severe in order to bring in that revenue, especially accounting for the counterintuitive effects it will have on the economy, income, and profits.

I refuse to ask middle class families to give up their deductions for owning a home or raising their kids just to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut. I refuse to ask students to pay more for college; or kick children out of Head Start programs, or eliminate health insurance for millions of Americans who are poor, elderly, or disabled – all so those with the most can pay less.

The idea that the rich don’t pay taxes and the lower-income brackets shoulder the burden under the current system of the Bush tax cuts is the most dastardly lie of the century.

Amazingly, after doubling down on his socialism, Obama had the temerity to say this:

And by the way – those of us who carry on his party’s legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington.

Oh, yeah? Name one that you believe can’t be remedied in Washington.  It’s like an alcoholic reproaching his fellow drinking partners, “not every ill can be assuaged with drinking.”

I’ve met workers in Detroit and Toledo who feared they’d never build another American car. Today, they can’t build them fast enough, because we reinvented a dying auto industry that’s back on top of the world.

So if my buddies milk a company to death, and then I spend $85 billion of taxpayer dollars to revive the carcass and hand it over to those who destroyed it in the first place (UAW), that’s an accomplishment?  It’s especially poignant that Obama failed to mention our investment in GM is worth a little more than a third of what it was in 2009.

But we also believe in something called citizenship – a word at the very heart of our founding, at the very essence of our democracy; the idea that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another, and to future generations.

Yes, his regard for American citizenship is that anyone who jumps the fence is a full-blown American.

And I will never turn Medicare into a voucher. No American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies. They should retire with the care and dignity they have earned. Yes, we will reform and strengthen Medicare for the long haul, but we’ll do it by reducing the cost of health care – not by asking seniors to pay thousands of dollars more. And we will keep the promise of Social Security by taking the responsible steps to strengthen it – not by turning it over to Wall Street.

Two sentences of lies about Ryan’s detailed plan, which is the only plan on the table to reform Medicare.  Would you mind letting us in on the secret of your plan to reform entitlements?  Or do you only leak national security secrets?

We’ve blunted the Taliban’s momentum in Afghanistan, and in 2014, our longest war will be over.

Nope.  Thanks to your egregious rules of engagement, our troops are dying at the quickest pace, their morale has plummeted, and the Taliban are stronger than ever.  You as many as well get out now; why wait until 2014?

Our commitment to Israel’s security must not waver, and neither must our pursuit of peace.

That is probably the biggest lie of the entire night.  His record speaks for itself.

After all, you don’t call Russia our number one enemy – and not al Qaeda – unless you’re still stuck in a Cold War time warp.

He’s not even embarrassed of the fact that he offered Putin “flexibility” and is genuflecting before his every whim.  This makes Romney look much stronger.

Now everyone who serves can love whomever they want.

It’s not about gays in the military; it’s about them flaunting that “love” openly – something that heterosexuals can’t do either.  They were always able to serve.

“You know, I’m no longer just a candidate. I’m the President.”

This, coming from a man who has never settled down into the office to stop campaigning.

Because we understand that this democracy is ours.

No, Mr. President.  We live in a Republic, not a democracy.  You can’t just do anything you want after winning a democratically held election.  You must follow the Constitution.  Therein lies the source of all your vices.
