Opinion: Republicans Need Not Fear a Clinton Candidacy

FILE – In this Oct. 18, 2011, file photo, then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton checks her Blackberry from a desk inside a C-17 military plane upon her departure from Malta, in the Mediterranean Sea, bound for Tripoli, Libya. It’s a photo that became an Internet meme: Hillary Rodham Clinton, wearing sunglasses, staring at her BlackBerry. Now it’s becoming a focal point for Republicans on the House committee that’s investigating the deadly attacks in Benghazi, Libya. The chairman, South Carolina Republican Trey Gowdy, wants to know why the panel has no emails from the day the photo was taken as Clinton, then the secretary of state, was en route to Tripoli. Over at the New York Post, Michael Goodwin appears to be warning us of an imminent Biden implosion and subsequent HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) parachute jump by Hillary Clinton as she seeks a rematch in the Presidential contest “she won” in 2016.

Now that the once-sprawling field of Democrats seeking the presidency has become a two-man race, many in the party are breathing a sigh of relief. All the more so because Joe Biden is the clear front-runner and the dreaded Bernie Sanders looks to be fading.

So it’s all set. Biden will be the nominee and give the party a solid chance of scoring a November trifecta: beating President Trump, taking the Senate and holding the House.

Count me as skeptical. Instead of a smooth ride, it’s more likely that the Dems’ desperate search for a Trump slayer will hit more turbulence and an alternative to Biden still could be necessary.

Guess what — one just happens to be waiting in the wings, hoping for an invitation. Before you laugh at the prospect of a Hillary Clinton comeback, consider the too-weird twists and turns of Biden’s campaign.

Goodwin goes on to enumerate and elaborate on the many reasons why a collapse of the Biden campaign is inevitable and possibly after it’s too late for Sanders to grab the nomination.

My good friend, colleague and fellow trade school graduate Stu Cvrk agrees and has previously described that possibility as one of several going into the Democrat convention. His “option 4” is interesting

Option 4: … With Bernie bowing out, Biden has the nomination in sight but suddenly withdraws because he is “on medication” for dementia or has been diagnosed with first-stage Alzheimer’s disease or some other malady. The Democrat Establishment – having the goods on his family’s corruption and knowing where all the bones are buried – would force his withdrawal announcement, opening the way for the designated outsider to swoop in and “save” the Democrat Party. Biden would play on the sympathy vote and implore Democrats (and Americans in general) to back the consensus Democrat candidate drafted during the convention.

Another of my colleagues, Alex Parker, is more pointed, describing how not only our team, but even some noted leftists, are questioning Vice President Biden’s cognitive ability.

As I’ve said time and again, President Donald J. Trump was never at any time worried about Vice President Joe Biden. Between him and Senator Socialist, I’d rather the President face Biden. Sanders is energetic and has a motivated base to knock on doors along with all the other Get Out The Vote (GOTV) functions. Biden, on the other hand, and as I’ve explained previously, is low energy, a gaffe machine and is increasingly demonstrating cognitive lapses, especially during late afternoon and evening events.

Now that we’ve established the quite likely possibility of a Biden implosion, what’s next? One name being bandied about…mostly by the “bandied,” is the criminal crone from Chappaqua herself, former Secretary of State and million-mile club member, Hillary Clinton. As my colleague Stu Cvrk has noted above, Mrs. Clinton has been not so coyly (almost) denying that she would answer the call, should it come, to save her party from being destroyed by Bernie Sanders. Left unspoken, but clearly understood by the party machine, is that she will be like Queen Elizabeth at the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics, HALOing in to the Democrat convention to save the day.

Be not afraid, Republicans. Be. Not. Afraid. Although we’d much rather face Biden, it really wouldn’t be much of a challenge, as I’ve noted above. However, it might generate some ancillary benefits.

First of all, this will be a good chance to run up the popular vote numbers. Does anyone really think that after the performance turned in by the Trump Administration, especially in the swing states…states that Herself couldn’t bother to campaign in, are going to suddenly flock to her side given the Trump economy?

Then there are the “Bernie Bros.” I cannot conceive of any situation absent the VP spot on the ticket, that the Bernie Bros show up to vote for the woman they truly believe stole the nomination from their Paladin in 2016. As in 2016, there will be many of them who cross over to vote for Trump…or at best (for Clinton) stay home.

Absent the apocalypse, President Donald J Trump is going to flog the fat fundament of the criminal crone from Chappaqua like a rented mule. No doubt in my mind. He’s gonna win the estimated popular vote** along the way too. Here is the best part. Clinton has been whining and griping about how the Russians helped Trump and that she “really won” in 2016. 2020 is gonna be her rematch. If you think her hotel suite on election night in 2016 was a free-fire zone of slung whiskey bottles, overturned furniture, and the screaming of a scorned scullery maid denied the object of her avarice, November 3, 2020, should be quite the show. So there is that. Be. Not. Afraid.

**Last I looked, there was no official tabulation of the national popular vote. Long a bone of contention among Military Members, often their ballots are not counted as by the time they arrive, they’ve been overcome by events
