Back in 1964, Burt Lancaster starred in a Politico-Military thriller called “7 Days in May.” In that movie, Lancaster played the part of General James Matoon Scot, who plotted and led an attempted coup by military officers who disagreed with the elected President’s foreign policies with regard to the then, Soviet Union.

Since shortly after Donald J Trump was elected, it appears that there was a coterie of career bureaucrats, both civilian and military actively working to undermine and eventually cause the removal of this duly elected President. Those of us who warned of this early on, were scoffed at as “conspiracy nuts,” sometime even by those allegedly on our side. Of course, as evidence mounted—evidence that could no longer be hidden from the public view, our war view became more mainstream.

As this was playing out, I kept having the feeling that I had seen this before. I had, but it was an Air Force general played by Burt Lancaster who played the starring role, as opposed to a narcissistic (and now fired) FBI Chief, played by James Comey who was pulling the cabal strings. I had hoped to write something about this, pointing out the parallel. It appears that great minds, do indeed, meander along similar paths. The Washington Examiner beat me out of the blocks and through the tape before I even laced up my track shoes.

There are new revelations about what took place in Washington during the extraordinary period from May 9, 2017, when President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, to May 17, 2017 when Trump-Russia special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed.

The short version is: The reports were true. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein really did discuss wearing a wire to secretly record the president. Rosenstein and others did discuss invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office. And the FBI did adopt an aggressive new investigation strategy, targeting the president himself, almost instantly after the Comey firing.

This is the kind of thing we routinely excoriate other countries for doing. The more we dig into this, the more dirt we keep finding. Rather than being some sort of “out there, conspiracy theorists,” it looks like we just might have undersold the degree to which these folks despise what Donald Trump represents; Just how much contempt they have for us bottom feeders, you know, the hoi polloi who drive the trucks, drill for the oil, unstop the toilets, cut the grass, repair the furnaces, build the cars and spill our blood on foreign soil—all us folks who pay our taxes and expect our employees to follow the orders of our duly elected political representatives.

I highly recommend this article, and others which are sure to follow it. Also attached, is a trailer from the movie I cited. Check out the movie, it’s pretty intense. It, combined with the Examiner article, clearly demonstrate the old saw that, “The Truth is Often Stranger Than Fiction.”
