President Trump has issued his call for action. His speech last night explained the problem, assigned responsibility and pointed out the way ahead. Now it’s time to engage with all the tools at our disposal and show the President we are behind him.

One great American has already stepped up. Brian Kolfage, who was wounded in Afghanistan, a triple amputee, a Purple Heart recipient and the most severely wounded US Airman in any war. He has put together a GoFundMe account to help pay for The Wall. It is a positive sign that his effort has already resulted in over 19.7 million dollars in private donations.

Of course, the left cannot allow such a public display of American citizens taking matters into their own hands in defiance of their Washington betters. After all, if like what has happened during this shutdown in the National Parks (citizen volunteers cleaning up) the average American just might conclude that maybe all that government just isn’t necessary. So, the leftists have launched a campaign degrading the fund raising effort, some claiming the Federal Government cannot use those funds.

In a sense, they are correct. Although any American can donate funds to the US Government, those funds go into the General Fund and by law, must be appropriated by Congress before being spent. There is  a potential way around that. Mr Kolfage could use those funds to purchase some border property. Once he has the deed, he can build a wall on it with the remainder of the funds, thus sidestepping both eminent domain issues and Congressional budget procedures. Of perchance, there is a Federal easement issue, the appropriate Federal Agency could give him a waiver and Congress (as constituted, would have little to say). Once complete, he can then donate said property, along with the structures (wall) on it to the Federal Government—and dare the leftists to pass legislation to tear it down.

Admittedly, the amount currently collected is only sufficient to purchase a small amount of property & erect a wall on that property. However, it would be a visual symbol of the determination of American citizens—citizens who are willing to put their own money where their mouths are, as opposed to leftists who are willing to put your money where their mouths are.
