The Hooded Man

Once a month, usually at night, a hooded man shows up at my front door with his hand out and palm up. He sort of looks like Emperor Palpatine. I know what he wants. It's the same thing he wants every month. Every month, all year round. For years. He wants $80 from me. And, because I know he can imprison me if I don't hand it over, I do what I am expected to do. I fork over the eighty bucks. Then I go back inside and hate myself.

Eighty dollars a month isn't that much these days, but still, if you found that amount of money on the sidewalk, I doubt you'd step over it the way you do a penny on the ground. On the contrary, it would probably make your day.

For you guys reading this, and wondering what the hell I'm talking about, know that the same thing is happening to you. Each and every one of you. You just don't feel the effects of it right away. See, $80 x 12 months is $960. And this is exactly what you're paying every year for the government to give stuff to all the illegal aliens living here now. But instead of a hooded man, the feds just take it out of your paycheck so you don't feel it. You get accustomed to it. And then you get numbed to it. It's like the Middle Eastern camel spider that has an anesthetic in its venom so dinner doesn't realize his hindquarters are being eaten.

You get used to your $80 being withheld, but if Palpatine had to make monthly rounds and show up at your door, you'd probably get very angry at each visit. Now, everybody pays taxes and knows that their money is going to stuff they don't support. Some folks don't like it that their cash goes to pay for nuclear weapons. Or welfare. Or potholes. Take your pick, but all of those things, whether you like them or not, go into the kettle of the Social Good (we hope.) Recent DOGE findings have demonstrated that this isn't often the truth, but we've been conditioned since our earliest days as taxpayers that you pay your share, and it macroeconomically benefits the country as a whole.

But now we have something new. We have millions and millions of illegal aliens crashing the party. And it doesn't benefit the country as a whole. Rather, it seems to be splitting it apart. Illegal immigration has happened for decades, even Reagan didn't do much about it. But this time it's different. This time, the Democrats threw open the border in front of the whole world and waved everyone in. For at least four years, they invited the planet to partake in everything good about American society (free speech, civil rights, economic opportunity, etc., etc., etc.) and then paid for the rest. Well...you paid for the rest. You paid for their schooling, you paid for their medical care, you paid for their food, you paid for their lodging, you paid for their flights to Rapid City, and you gave them your cash. You also endured the worst behavior that some of them introduced into your lives, like fentanyl, crime, and deaths from drunk drivers.

So you gave them $950 from your pocket every year (that's $3800 in Joe Biden years). But that's not been good enough. So the Democrats and progressives have done something else...they turned the culture against you if you complained. Hate has no home here. You're a racist. You're no Christian. How's the bread 'n water in social media jail? And they wonder why Donald Trump beat the daylights out of Kamala Harris. They wonder why the Democratic Party is completely under water. And they wonder why nobody trusts NBC or CNN anymore. It's because the country still has a BS meter, and the country has noticed it's pegged.

When I began looking at this on a personal level, it started to mean something different to me than just the feelings of ambivalence over the usual federal withholding. I started considering what I could do with my $950. Two months of groceries. Three tanks of gas a month. A weekend trip to the lake. Extra cash to help out my kids. But instead, it goes to a stranger on my doorstep.

"Here I am! Pay for me!"

"But you're not even supposed to be here."

"No, but here I am. Pay for me!"

And then I have to do it. I know I sound like a pearl-clutching old lady, and I hate to, but the nerve. The gall. Who do you think you are? This is a visceral reaction that I just cannot put into the right words, no matter what adjectives I use. I've tried a bunch of them. The emotions have not been purged. Donald Trump is trying to undo what the Democratic Party and their progressive friends have already done, as well as the negligence of past administrations (including the Republicans), but I am going to be paying for illegal immigration for the rest of my days. The past is what it is, and all that can be done now is attempt to remedy it. At least we now have a president who is trying to do just that.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
