Watercooler 3/1 Open Thread: Mass Exodus, Debating Debates, Carson & Rand Taking a Stand.

If it’s Tuesday, it’s election day in America and today it’s going to be SUPER! So let’s get started.

Mass Exodus

The one thing we’ve learned so far about this election is that voter enthusiasm in the Democrat Party is way down. But it’s getting worse for them, even in a deep blue state like Massachusetts, where nearly 20,000 voters quit the Democrat Party. From the Boston Herald:

Secretary of State William Galvin said more than 16,300 Democrats have shed their party affiliation and become independent voters since Jan. 1, while nearly 3,500 more shifted to the MassGOP ahead of tomorrow’s “Super Tuesday” presidential primary. [snip]

The primary reason? Galvin said his “guess” is simple: “The Trump phenomenon,” a reference to GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, who polls show enjoying a massive lead over rivals Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and others among Massachusetts Republican voters.

Whoa, that’s got hurt especially for Sanders since he was hoping for a win here. Not only do D’s have to compete against each other, they too have to compete against The Trump Effect.

Debating Debates

Isn’t it time for our candidates to stop debating? The last debate looked like a bar room brawl or a pileup scrambling to hold onto a fumbled football and it gives the Democrats ad material in the future. If we’re not learning anything new or until the candidates are winnowed further, well then I think it’s a waste of time full of gotcha moments.

The next debate is this Thursday with the same FNC moderators in MI, just one week after the last one! Then another one week later in Miami on March 10 with CNN and then another on March 21 in Utah, host TBD. Enough is enough.

Carson and Rand are Taking a Stand

If you’re a Carson supporter, you’re in luck. Carson vows to stay in the race regardless of not winning a state or even coming close.

CARSON: Well, there’s always the possibility that people will awaken and recognize that just what they were asking for is what I have presented for them. [snip]  But the one thing I do know is that I have millions of social media fans and they’re begging me not to get out. They’re continuing to support us tremendously economically. So there is really no reason to disregard what they have to say.

I think this is a joke but one never knows anymore. From TheHill.com:

Former Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul tweeted on Tuesday that he would “un-suspend” his campaign if the New Hampshire Union Leader endorses him and declares a “do over.” This comes after that paper retracted it’s endorsement of Christie last week after he endorsed Trump.

Hoping for a Clinton Landslide Today

For all the handwringing over a Trump nomination, there can be none greater for Democrats who elect HRC as their nominee; they just don’t know it yet. Many call Trump voters stupid and ignorant yet aren’t Hillary’s voters that and more? They turn a blind eye to the distinct possibility that she’ll be indicted on multiple charges. It’s bad when even CBS reminds us that it’s not over:

CBS correspondent Nancy Cordes said Hillary Clinton’s email scandal that has dogged her for a year “is not over” while concluding a report on the Democratic primary Tuesday.

“Last night, the State Department released its final batch of Clinton’s 30,000 private emails that she sent as secretary of state,” Cordes said. “In the end, more than 2,000 of those emails were deemed either partially or completely classified.

“The Clinton campaign is glad to get the drip-drip-drip behind them, but this is not over, Norah. There are still FBI investigations and a federal judge is calling on some of her aides to testify about why that server was set up.”

Will they rue the day the voted for her over Sanders? Only time, the FBI and DOJ will tell.
