Gov. Perry Setting the Record Straight (with video)

Gov. Perry has taken advantage of the political opportunity provided to him by the Perry-haters in the so-called Public Integrity Unit of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.

Indicted on trumped up charges that are obviously no more than a pitiful attempt of political revenge by Rosemary Lehmberg the disgraced District Attorney of Travis County, Texas,

Perry has gone on the offensive.

Lehmberg was arrested on, and pled guilty to, charges of driving while intoxicated. Not a good thing for anyone to do, but especially not for the head of the public integrity unit. When Lehmberg did not resign after making a belligerently drunken spectacle of herself, Gov. Perry exercised his constitutional right to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit she is in charge of. As explained here, that is not coercion.

Perry’s tough no nonsense response has the Liberals in Texas, and across the country, realizing that the Democrats’ efforts to continue to engage in the criminalization of politics as they did previously with Tom DeLay, Scott Walker, and Ted Stevens, has backfired. As Perry puts it, “We don’t settle political differences with indictments in this country.”

The Liberals are so concerned even the New York Times calls the farcical charges a “product of an overzealous prosecution” and acknowledges that Gov. Perry had good reason to seek Lehmberg’s resignation. At Salon, Michael Lind writes that, Lehmberg has helped Perry:

“Democrats nationwide have reason to be upset with Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg for inadvertently helping Rick Perry, Chris Christie, Scott Walker and the GOP brand in general. As Talleyrand observed of Napoleon’s execution of the Duc d’Enghien: ‘It is worse than a crime; it is a mistake.'”

Gov. Perry’s RickPAC has released the following hard-hitting video, “Setting the Record Straight.”

Perry has put together a team of high-powered lawyers to defend him against these political charges masquerading as criminal charges. Perry’s lawyers have already made it clear that they are going after the disgraced head of the public integrity unit.

Few think Gov. Perry will lose this fight.
