The World Cup Is Undoing Decades of Anti-American Propaganda

America is pretty awesome. We all knew that, and the patriotism of Americans is a testament to how great this country is, because there are forces in this world who spend night and day, billions and billions of dollars, and endless hours of manpower to convince both people within and without that the United States is hell on Earth.

But all it took was an internationally beloved sport to sweep all that away in a matter of days. Decades and decades of anti-American propaganda just tossed into the trash as nations from all over the globe converge stateside and experience the actual wonder that is the United States of America.

RedState has been covering some of the festivities and reactions. My colleague Nick Arama, for instance, has been following some of the stories of people having an amazing time, including fans from Norway and Scotland, the latter of which busted out the bagpipes.

The Heartland Institute has reported on how the Swedish are marveling at ranch dressing and yellow school buses, and Germans are having their mind blown by our fighter jet flyovers before games.

But honestly, one of my favorites is the British, who cannot believe the efficacy of central air conditioning and the Bass Pro Shop.

But my all-time favorite has to be the Japanese, who aren't just insanely respectful to the point where I want to keep them around forever (Nick's article features them actually cleaning up after themselves after a game), but they're in love with our cuisine, specifically Texas BBQ.

Not that the British aren't also putting their best Texas foot forward.

It also opens your eyes to just how good we have it here, too, and there are many things we tend to take for granted. For instance, as Fox News reported, people from Europe are shocked by the concept of free refills. One Italian was telling his friend that he could refill his soda 1,000 times, as if this were an insane concept.

Maybe it is, but we're just so used to it that we see it as normal.

But what got me was watching some of the YouTube commentary from foreign people who actually moved here. One couple from Britain posted a vlog discussing how their friends who came here for the World Cup have had something of a massive awakening.

This couple describes how people who are coming here are almost emotionally quieted by just how abundant, friendly, and generous the American people are. When they have conversations with Americans, these foreigners find that Americans are genuinely interested in what they have to say, want to spend time with them, and love to participate in each other's cultures.

Watching this is really good for the soul.

People have assumed you were a villain all your life just because you were born under the red, white, and blue, then come here and learn you're probably one of the coolest kinds of people on the planet.

As the British couple notes, the world has been lied to for so long, but that said, it's amazing how fast all of this can be undone with just one conversation, one trip to a restaurant, and one sporting event.
