'Would Lincoln Have Done That?' Hollywood Actor Completely Misses the Mark With Query on Trump's Behavior

Your mileage may vary, but there's a sense of refreshment around President Donald Trump's behavior. How you feel about how he acts might be dictated by your own personal preferences, including whether or not you hate him, but one thing can't be denied, and that's the fact that Trump is a different kind of president.

The main complaint from the left, and even some of Trump's voters, is that he lacks the decorum typically associated with the office of the President of the United States. Usually, there's a professionalism to it, at least in the way the commander in chief conducts himself. Trump, however, tosses all those unspoken rules out the door, causing unending outrage from the left.

This includes Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels, who, according to The Hill, believes Trump should be holding himself to a higher level of decorum than he is:

Actor Jeff Daniels is criticizing President Trump for sharing an AI-generated video appearing to show himself “spewing excrement all over” No Kings protesters.

“Do we really have to treat people like that?” the “Dumb and Dumber” and “Good Night, and Good Luck” star asked MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace during a Tuesday interview.

[...]

“The meme that [Trump] had where he was flying with the crown and spewing excrement all over the people down below,” Daniels, 70, said.

“Would Lincoln have done that?” Daniels exclaimed.

“I don’t think Nixon would’ve done that,” Wallace replied.

Wallace continues by listing all the Republican presidents that "wouldn't have done it."

And they're right. These presidents wouldn't have done it, but Trump isn't those presidents.

Those Republican presidents had a behavior that was right and necessary at the time. This was back during an age where decorum was part of the deal... or more accurately, the illusion of decorum.

The issue is that we've left that kind of decorum behind, and I think it officially died during the Biden administration when cocaine was being left in bathrooms, topless transgender activists were flashing cameras, and the country was being run by people in the background who had access to an autopen.

That "decorum" had become something of a mask to cover up corruption, intrigue, and even incompetence. It wasn't being taken seriously by anyone, including those who were supposed to have it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's been weaponized as a way to cover up things like Joe Biden's declining mental faculties.

So, in a way, it's refreshing to see Trump act in the way that he is. He knows that it was all a lie. We know it was all a lie. So why continue acting like we should maintain the lie? If decorum didn't matter to the left except as a stage show, then it's almost cathartic to toss that out the window and embrace something a bit more real and even fun.

They think Trump isn't acting like he should, but I disagree. He's acting exactly as she should during this point in our history, and after everything Democrats forced us to endure. No, Lincoln wouldn't approve, but Lincoln is an integral and important figure in the history of the Republican Party, not its director. At this time, the Republican Party needs to be on the offensive against a Democrat party that has lost its ever-loving mind and has descended into radicalism.

This behavior from Trump resonates with the common man who had to watch as bureaucrats ruined their lives behind fake smiles, expensive suits, and virtue signaling in front of cameras.

This isn't the degradation of the office. That's already happened.

Will it always be this way? Hard to say. Trump is Trump, and I'm not sure we're going to see his like in office for a very long time. Some things might return to normal after he's gone, at least in terms of how the office conducts itself, but for now, Trump is behaving in a way that I would say is beneficial. He's ripping the mask off. He's encouraging people to laugh at things we were told we can't laugh at.
