The Trump Speech Nobody Expected

President Donald Trump's address to congress was filled with more drama and exciting moments than most Hollywood films nowadays. Tuning out of Presidential speeches is always an ever-present danger, but Trump's speech had people glued to their screens, wondering what would happen next.

To be sure, the Democrats helped with that, but Trump owning the left during his speech was what we expected. What we didn't expect was how emotionally charged it would be.

From the beginning, we knew things were going to get dramatic. The Democrats had already signalled they were going to act up. There were signs, the color pink was worn, and one of the highlights was Rep. Al Greene getting booted by Speaker Mike Johnson for trying to heckle Trump relentlessly.

After Greene was booted, Democrats seemed to get rather quiet. In fact, they got too quiet. Riley Gaines was there personally, and as she points out in a post on X, the Democrats wouldn't stand during any moment of that speech except for one, and that's when Trump brought up the hundreds of billions of dollars we sent to Ukraine under Biden. That's it.

And here is where the Democrats really screwed up, because there were moments they absolutely should have stood and applauded. Aside from Trump's interactions with the Democrats were moments that were outside of politics. In fact, I would say these apolitical moments overshadowed Trump smacking around the Democrats by a wide margin, and I don't think a lot of people anticipated how emotionally charged the speech would be.

In the course of his speech, Trump honored both Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, both of whom were brutally assaulted and murdered by illegal immigrants let in through the open border of the Biden administration. The Laken Riley Act, which stops violent criminal illegal immigrants from being released into the U.S., was spoken about with Riley's family in attendance.

It was a touching moment to hear Trump talk about Riley, and it seemed like a moment of justice and healing for Riley's mother.

Trump also honored Nungaray, who loved nature and wildlife, by dedicating a nature reserve to her, signing an executive order formalizing the name of the reserve. Nungaray's mother, Alexis, was also in attendance. She later told Fox News it was truly an honor to see Trump do this, and called the Democrats cowardly for not standing for her daughter.

Then, there was, of course, 13-year-old DJ Daniel, a brain cancer survivor who was given an honorary position at the Secret Service with his very proud (and very Texan) father holding him up in celebration. It was a moment that had a lot of people emotional.

These moments far overshadowed the Democrats, which I think wasn't something anyone, especially the Democrats, expected.

What the left thought was likely going to happen was that their disruptions, color-coordination, and ridiculous signs would be celebrated as noble resistance, but in reality, they just looked petty and childish. Not standing for any of those touching moments was especially a horrid look on them, and it's a wonder none of them thought that being so ridiculous would ultimately be a bad look.

Everyone expected Trump to spike footballs on the Democrats, but in truth, the Democrats did more damage to themselves that night while Trump actually worked to heal the nation through his dedications to the victims, their families, and those who deserve recognition and praise.

I think it took a lot of people off-guard, and I don't just mean the Democrats. I mean America.

If you want proof, check out this CBS/YouGov poll, which shows the majority of Americans had positive attitudes toward this speech.

This was easily Trump's best speech, and by the look of it, it's been a needed one for some time.
